Ya know... all this debate about Mac's versus PC's is giving me a headache. And Apple's cute lil advertisements are NOT helping matters
( Read more... )
I'm partial to the clean, functional user interface that just works.
As far as the cost goes, by the time you load up a PC with enough equipment to make windows vista work properly (according to their own specs), you've exceeded the cost of the Mac, so why not go with the prettier one?
My vote is to stick with what you know and are most comfortable with. I actually switched from Macs to PCs because (a) I was tired of the limited availability of software compared to PCs, and more importantly (2) I use my computers for work, most companies are on PCs and when I'd send attachments via email, they'd run into problems opening or editing them. Despite what all the Mac fanatics will tell you, they're still NOT fully compatible in this regard. Now I get attachments from Mac people I can't open without fiddling around or having them send the attachment in a different format.
It took me a while to get used to the PC format, but I've never looked back and am happy I switched. I have a desktop and a laptop for the same price (probably less, actually) as one Mac would cost me. I usually get mine from Dell because I can order them the way I want them without all the crap I'm not interested in, and with MS Office already loaded for only a little more. To buy MS Office for a Mac would run the price up several hundred $ more.
You'll get passed the learning curve, but I say: Get the one you want that has what you want at the price point you want it from a good manufacturer
( ... )
cuz you get one of two reactions: either people get all googly eyed and start drooling (the fanboys) or rolling eyes.
lol
i can't stand going to the apple store. I try to get in and out as quickly as possible. Their marketing is so pretentious at times. lol. but, I can't argue with success, so I'll just roll my eyes and try to suck it up.
if i were buying a laptop for myself, i would buy a mac hands down. they are much better built/constructed than anything you can get PC-wise. you'll get over the learning curve, it's not that hard. as for the software argument... name me one everyday PC software that doesn't have a Mac equivalent.
Hmmm, Tim, you should check out LEGO Movie Maker, LEGO Mindstorms 1, 1.5 & 2.0 or LEGO Vision Command. Considering it's one of the largest toy companies in the world, it's amazing how only the newest Mindstorms NXT works on a MAC.
But this isn't all about LEGO. I've had my iBook G4 laptop for a year and a half now and absolutley LOVE it. With the exception of the single click track pad (God I miss the right-click) everything else has been working out pretty well for me. If you're in the market for a laptop, definitely look into battery life. When I was shopping around, the MAC almost offered twice the battery life of the comparible Windows versions.
The software issue is something you should look into. I think the newer macs are better able to handle more programs, but I won't pretend to be an expert on that.
Well Praise Jesus!!! If it can run LEGO Movie Maker, LEGO Mindstorms 1, 1.5 & 2.0 or LEGO Vision Command flawlessly then i'm SOLD!!!!!
:P ;)
Haha, the good news is that I'm definitely leaning more and more to a mac. I have an IBM thinkpad from work (which is obsolete by todays standards) so I think it would be a pleasant change.
And just how the hell are you my dear? I haven't talked to/seen you in forever! Ummm yea and what the hell was up with you being down here all that time and not stopping by? Yea, this is one of those "people who I didn't get a chance to see bitching me out for not seeing them while I was visiting" moments. ENjoy :)
