Is downloading from something like rapidshare the same as a torrent? I'm still clueless although very bummed about this development.

I think it might be but I'm really not sure so I asked around. Hopefully someone knows the definitive answer.

Here's the response I got:

"Torrent is peer-to-peer (p2p), which means that you download parts of the file and at the same time others download what you've already downloaded. It's sharing.

In case of rapidshare and the such, you simply download from someone, so you do not give 'illegal' content to next people."

So it sounds like downloading (say a certain episode of a certain show which I will buy the DVDs for anyway....grrr) isn't going to be red flags like torrent, which involves a bunch of ISPs out there at the same time.

Thank you!!!!!! That is really interesting. But this whole thing is so disheartening.
