Brazil 2009: Part 8 "Vanya and Beba" (Last One! I promis!)
I think the most important thing to my mom was that we visited Vanya and Beba, who were her "parents" when she lived there. They were very sweet and had pictures of my mom's family everywhere, including tons of my Uncle Richard (my mom's older brother who died of AIDS while I was in womb) who loved Brazil and stayed with them off and on for years. Brazil 2009: Part 7 "Barra"
Near Maceio on a town called Barra (Ba-ha), a huge number of people from the family have beach houses next to each other. It is amazing to jump from backyard to backyard and then onto the beach. BRAZIL! 2009: Part 3 "The Reserva"
After the factory, they drove us into the "reserva" or reserve - the land the Wanderlys have protected - a lot of "hectores," it is Atlantic Forest, which is different from rainforest, but apparently have an even more diverse selection of wildlife. Brazil! 2009: Part 2
They took us to the Coruripe factory, where they grow and harvest sugar cane and turn it into ethanol, and sugar, and other useful things. It was the most beautiful factory I have ever seen lol. Acres and acres or "hectores" of land and forest and in the middle is a factory, clean and colorful, with plants everywhere and friendly workers. It ( Read more... )
