Now that Faire is over, I can get out into the Sewing Shack and do what I need to do - clean up and organize everything.
Problem is I've got so many projects on paper that I have no clue what I want to do first. Another problem is my still shrinking measurements.
So, organizing is first in my mind - let me see what I've got, what I want to keep and everything else, let's sell to someone who will use it and wants it. After thirty minutes outside, I had to come in. The fabric overload in the room is threatening to eat me! LOL Well, the fabric and the half-finished projects. *sheepish smile*.
By the time I'm done pulling everything out, I'm hoping that I can clean out a tote or two. The scraps, I think I'll post in a large "scrap" bundle and sell it like that. Quilters would love it.
Now, before I really continue however, I need to go get some of the Space Bags... mom came up with the idea of me putting all of my project items together into one bag so I can look at it and see what I've got and what I need. Plus, it'll keep the little creepy-crawlies out. LOL I was so squicked last summer... after I took my black and white dress apart to wash the skirt (oh that was a disaster...), I unfolded the bodice one day and found a little spider nest in the fold. pissed me off.
And that's another project that probably is a complete do-over - the B&W dress... I mean from scratch. I ruined the white velvet skirt by washing it and not realizing the black velvet border on the hem wasn't colorfast, so I've got a greyish dingy white skirt with blue-black streaks all over it... and the bodice is like 3 sizes too big now. I can salvage the bones out of it and take it apart for scrap. The white velvet might be dyable. But, all this means that I'll be out of a B&W dress. No worries, of course, it'll be a quick do whenever I get the urge. But right now, I want some color. I neeeeeeeeeeeeeeed color!!!!
I'm so not kidding, folks. I just purchased (shudder) a length of fabric that's red and gold. I mean RED and YELLOW GOLD. I've got a length of minty green linen in my possession that's begging to be made. I'm looking through my stuff to see what I can dye pink for a dress. And lastly, I've got purple velvet and purple and gold striped material that's waiting to be made.
I felt un-noticed this season and I hate it. Part of it was lack of attendance (read: apathy). The other part is that I didn't feel like I stood out from the sea of costumes.
I love people stopping to look at my dresses. Black and white doesn't get noticed all that much, but color does. Everyone else has that basic 'bodice and skirts' wench look. Give me Courtesan, give me Court attire, give me German, hell I'll even take Middle Class... JUST NOTICE ME DAMN IT!!
On muddy days, it's one thing to save the special outfits and go with the "I don't give a shit if it gets muddy" outfits. But.....
wow... I just realized how much of a Garb Bitch I am.
OK, Yeah, I admit it, I'm a snob. I look at the girls down here in their attempts to do 'noble' clothing and I cringe. They don't fit right, they use the wrong fabrics (one gal's dress was made out of something I would use for throw pillows) and there isn't even an inkling of just how to do it right.
I find their lack of knowledge painful.
But, and here's where that "Garb Bitch" comes in... I also find their lack of aptitude comforting in the fact that I'll always look better than they will.
Good news... I just received UPS confirmation that my $$$ length of red and gold fabric is in the mail. Now that I've had lunch, I can face the fabric monster and tame it.
I am Garb Bitch. Hear me ROAR and look fabulous while doing it!
