Singing for my Supper

Last night, I attended my first Rosh Hashanah service in over fifteen years. It was one of those “Beginner” services for Jewish adults who have little to no religious training. You. Go. Girl!

I love that Williamson quote.

What you do is valuable. Your singing and performing allows others to step out of themselves for a little while and experience a fantasy life they could not otherwise have, and yet desperately need. Our work as performers is NOT trivial and it is more important than ever in times of hardship.

I'm making myself a card out of your post --- it's one of those print-and-keepers!

Brava.

Actually, it's the other way around. If Mandela ever really spoke those words (there's no proof of it), he was quoting Williamson. :)

Even though I'm pretty groggy right now (the scotch has nothing to do with it - I basically have been singing for about 12 hours with a break inbetween for a nap!), I hear ya.

Funny thing -
after the first morning service today, a longtime congregant whom I recognized slightly stopped me as I was on my way into the choir room to use the facilities; in a very simple way, she thanked me for all the musical and spiritual gifts I've given her and the rest of the congregation over all the years I've been singing there.

Um,.... gee.
You're welcome. Srsly.
I was touched. I was almost verklemt!

L'Shanah Tovah Tikatevu;
L'Shanah Tovah Um'tukah.
