I swear, I'm so mad at my friend Vicky. Not because she deceived me [she would never], and not because she did something behind my back [again, out of character for Vicky]...it is all because she introduced me to the ever-so-tempting universe of Twilight.
God, like I need another obsession! Ok, here's how it started. In the middle of the year, Angeala, a friend of ours, told Vicky how good the Twilight book series is: it's a fantasy book with vampires and werewolves and...romance? Vicky was interested so she read the first book...then she read the second...then the third! Before I knew it, she bought the final book in the series, Breaking Dawn, the morning it came out. Seriously, it was Harry Potter all over again! At first I tried my best to avoid the sudden craze of the fantasy/sci-fi/romance novel. Then I saw how teenage girls my age swooned over the infamous Edward Cullen character [uhhh he's fictional, right?] Noticing that various girls RAVE about how much they obsessed over the novel, using the "Bumper Stickers" or "Pieces of Flair" application on Facebook, just made me cringe. How can it bring the same satisfaction as a book series about witches and wizards that convinced MILLIONS young and old that reading was fun again? I mean come on, who didn't wait for their letter from Hogwarts in the mail? Who doesn't want to learn to play Quidditch or Wizard's chess? And then Vicky managed to slip the book in my hands one day over her house. I decided to take it home, but it wasn't until a week later that I came to terms and opened it. I finished the five hundred paged book in five days, loving almost every minute of it. Oh no! Have I fallen victim to a fad? Say it isn't so! But honestly, there's something about the book. It's very...affectionate, and oddly seductive. The difference between Harry Potter and Twilight is that Harry Potter has a traditional and elegant vibe with tons of interesting characters to enjoy. However, Twilight follows several - but very selective - characters and jumps right into themes of teenage love and forbidden temptations. As for Edward Cullen?...well, lets just say it is pretty obvious that a woman wrote this book. Not that I'm complaining, though! Seriously, everytime I see a guy now I compare him to Edward Cullen. Obviously, it is no contest! *sigh* If only there were sweet and compassionate teenage vampires in reality xD As for Bella, the main character, I'm not that big of a fan. It's not because I'm jealous of her relationship with Edward [again, he's fictional!] her nagging and ditzyness are irritable. I empathize with her thoughts of being merely ordinary, but I'm not completely sure she deserves Edward...yes, I'm still aware that this is all a work of fiction. Anyway, this book definitely nourishes the fan-girl inside of me! Now I'm nearly three hundred pages into the second book, New Moon. Unfortunately, Vicky told me it's mostly about Bella's new relationship with Jacob Black. He's no Edward Cullen, but I'll give him a shot. Who can go wrong with an adolescent werewolf? :D
So yeah...other than being trapped in the world of Twilight, I just took my five hour course this morning. It was less irritable than I imagined [we got to watch clips from Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, Clueless, Road Trip, How I Met Your Mother, and even Jerry Seinfeld stand up, all in topic of driving safety, of course] but the five hours seemed to drag on somewhat, despite the mildly entertaining videos and 20 minute breaks. Plus, I managed to read eighty page of New Moon during the five hour session. I'm just glad to have gotten it over with.
I was so excited that Party City actually called me to schedule an interview a few days ago! Don't be so enthusiastic straight away though; my mom has already had a "talk" with me about getting back to them: "You wouldn't want to work there. Halloween shoppers will go crazy on you! The managers are your sister's age!" Just non-stop overbearing. I don't see why she is so cautious about EVERYTHING. It's a job interview! How bad can the place be if they are willing to hire me believe me, no other place of hiring has considered me until they did. Ughhh, I guess I can wait another year to get a job suitable for my mom's likes. Because really, there can only be one PERFECT job for me in this hopeless town. Only one.
