Syracuse was taking his boat without Ondine. Ondine, who was gone. Gone back to the sea, you see. Annie had her theories, but Syracuse was just feeling bad.

He steered close to shore when the body caught his eye. "What's this now?" he asked, turning the wheel to get close enough. "Eh!" he called the closer her got.

Oh, shite, she had a tail. "Eh!" he called again.

Through the haze of pain and exhaustion, Rikki heard a voice but what really got her attention was the sound of a boat engine. Oh God, they'd found her. Her eyes popped open and she flopped her body over so that she was face up and she could raise her hand with a wince. "Don't come any closer!" There was fear in her voice no matter how much she hated that it was there.

She could throw a ball of fire at him, but that would only extend the inevitable. The way she felt she would never be able to push her body back into the water and get away. And she definitely wouldn't have time to drag herself out of the water and dry herself so that she could run away.

"Eh!" Syracuse dropped his anchor and jumped over, splashing and wading his way toward the shore. "Are you all right? Did someone hurt ya?"

It took a moment for Rikki to understand that he wanted to help not harm and she dropped her arm once more. "Need to get away." Her Australian accent still a bit thick despite the world traveling. "Need to hide."

Her wet hair was sticking to the blood on her shoulder where the bullet had passed through.
