Comment to this post and I will give you 5 subjects/things I associate you with. Then post this in your LJ and elaborate on the subjects given.
These are the five things
boofadilassociates with me. Comment and I'll give you five of your own.
1. Wormholes (take that as you wish. *g*): Hee. Yeah, that's one drink I've managed to stay away from since 2002. I'm perfectly happy with keeping the Puddle an only child.
For those who weren't there to get the reference, my son is the fortunate byproduct of a super-fun Farscape Con. If you've never hung out with a group of scapers, they're one fandom that knows how to party. I think we drank the Hilton's bar out of most popular ingredients the first night during the first three cons.
A friend of ours, Buckaroo, made these awesome drink menus with recipes, and one of them was The Wormhole. We got the portions wrong, and what was supposed to be a shot was served up in rocks glasses. It was all bacardi 151 and blue curacao with a swirl of baley's for effect, so it wasn't kind going down, but I was dared and I've *never* been good at turning down a dare. The Puddle came along nine months later, and I totally blame the wormholes.
ETA: I should probably clarify that the hubby and I were at the con together. I realized that could sound a whole lot more gossip-worthy than it was. :P
2. Chloe: Sometimes, I hate fannish tendencies. Chloe Sullivan is the first character I've rooted for that wasn't part of the main ship in a series, and I'm pretty much convinced the writers are going to squander her in the long run. I watched SV early on, but mostly for the pretties of Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum. Even then, I was rooting for Chloe because glowy light and doe-eyes are just not my kind of ship. I got my undergrad in Journalism so it wasn't much of a stretch to root for the girl who bled news ink.
Anyway, I wasn't tied to the show, and I specifically avoided seeking anything about it online. Then season five sucked me in and seasons six through now just plain sucked. It's a love-hate thing, because you've got this rich character that stands for everything a character should in a show about Superman, and then you spend the bulk of eight seasons watching her get kicked in the teeth. I suppose it's not that far from rooting for poor Crichton on Farscape. That guy hardly ever caught a break and Chloe doesn't either. The key difference is that I knew the FS writers would do something cool with the story - I have no faith that SV's ragtag writing team has anywhere near the vision or the courage that Kemper and Co. had in their pinkies.
I suppose that's what captured my muse and drove me to write a bit of fic to see what could be done with the million and one opportunities the official writers miss. I'm thankful for that, and for the corner of fandom that introduced me to.
3. Skiing: Two-plankers, blech. Just kidding! Skiing actually scares the bejeesus out of me, because there is way too much going on and I've never been all that coordinated. But snowboarding? Kinda rocks. I used to be terrified when Justin suggested I try, and smoking kept me off the hill until the last few years. Now he's created a monster. It's so freakin fun I can't even put it into words. The best I can do is say it's as close as I'll ever come to flying and I love it! I'm sure surfers feel the same way.
4. Arizona: I'm one of about half a dozen Arizona natives I know (Puddle included) and although I always talked about going somewhere else, I'm finding I love this place more every year. Our sunsets are amazing, the Grand Canyon and Superstition Mountains are breathtaking and we have this quirky state history that totally fits me. I've been to just about every corner of this state and I love the nooks and crannies you find among the people and places. Mystery Castle, Sedona, Jerome, Sunflower, Why, Cochise Stronghold National Monument, the crazy guy that collects stuff in the middle of the desert, Prescott's Whiskey Row and their picturesque town square. I'm actually facing an option to move out of state, and am really struggling with it. Where else can I go that I don't have to worry about snowstorms, tornadoes, or earthquakes but I can reach decent snow in two hours and the ocean in four or five?
5. Winchesters: Love those boys. I haven't had this much faith in a show since Farscape. I know some people love or hate certain episodes, but really, I haven't seen one I didn't have fun watching. They do great things on a network that's not exactly known for that, and should get an award just for that. After seeing the writers and J2 at Comic Con last year, I have so much more appreciation for the process behind it. That bunch loves telling a good story and knows how to have fun doing it. That's waaaay too rare these days if you ask me.
