I swear I haven't forgotten that "before and after" meme.  RL has just been in ass-kicking mode since last week ( Read more... )

I can't really claim that this is spectacular, but one year I made a little multi-page card (I used scrapbooking paper and bound it with ribbon) with one page for each year we had been married, and on each page I wrote down one special memory I had of something we did together that year. It didn't take long to put together, and it wasn't a huge deal, but my husband really liked it. You could do pictures, too, obviously.

On the 12th anniversary of our first date, my husband gave me an egg carton with 12 golf balls in it instead of eggs. At the time I had been complaining about how much time he spent golfing on the weekends, instead of spending time with me. On the inside of the top of the egg carton he had written, "12 reasons I love you more than golf," and then on each golf ball was a reason, written in Sharpie. His writing was all wobbly because of the dimples, and it was just the sweetest thing ever.

I'm sorry your life is so hectic at the moment! Have a wonderful anniversary! An even dozen years is truly something to

Now this isn't so much husbandy (if that's a word), as poor April never ever has a boyfriend.

But one Father's Day, I remade my myspace as a tribute to my Dad. The wallpaper was for his favorite movie (with complementing shades for text and whatnot). The interests were all things he loved instead of mine. The BIO contained funny stories about why he was the best single father ever (and just the words single father should convince you he was awesome). And the profile pic was me and him when I was little. I emailed him a link to my myspace and just told him to check his email.

I'm not saying you should do the same thing, but maybe just broadcast to the world why he's so awesome to you and let him in on it, too.

My stepmum told me that my dad wiped a tear or two, just knowing he was loved and appreciated.

PS- I never quite changed it back, so my myspace is still orange and black with Planet of the Apes tiled in the background. Gotta fix that as it's nearly a year past father's day.

That's a great idea! I'm going to poke around to see whether I can theme something around his favorite stuff. Boondock Saints and V for Vendetta aren't bad movie themes, I suppose.

He is pretty darned awesome, and he should hear all about it.

Thank you!

Aw, those are sweet! Hmm...you might have given me an idea on the egg thing. There has to be a way I can make that work for a snowboarding fanatic.

On the home front, we're spending a couple of hours a night helping the puddle cram for the kindergarten entry screening for the charter school we'd like him to attend (which covers everything I learned while *in* kindergarten and boggles the mind),

This makes me want to CRY. He's, what, FIVE, and he's already having to take some bullshit standardized test that measures his self-worth how smart he is up against other kids to get into KINDERGARDEN?! All Kindergardners do is color! And it never ends! Then he'll have to do the ACT, and the SAT and then GRE or the MCAT (if he's really lucky!) then boards or the bar! UGH! Five year olds should be spared of this! ::stomps off in disgust:::
