Sorry I've missed all the SV finale drama lately. RL has been insane in the fallout of in-law insanity and now that that's over, I find myself, oddly, on vacation in ATL.
I flew out here to see my BFF who moved here last summer. We're road-tripping to Hilton Head and Savannah, which is considerably less cool than the trip to NYC we originally planned, but she's nervous about leaving her six month old with her hubby, so... Oh well.
For me, this trip is about either mending a very broken friendship, or giving a friendship that lasted 18 years the open, honest closure it deserves. There's a lot of tough things to say either way it goes, so send a few brave thoughts my way.
At least I'm getting some weather. It's 106 back home, with no relief from the sun in sight. Here, it's going to thunderstorm the whole time, even on our road trip, and it's dipping below 60 at night. I may even appreciate the break from the humidity when I go home!
I did catch the finale, and after reading his Ausiello interview, have decided I still like AA. It's crappy what they did to him, and I want to smish him for the Chlark comment. It may not be everything I want him (or anyone) to say, but that's the most open I've ever seen a cast member be in acknowledging the Chlark chemistry. Maybe people talked more about it before I joined this fandom, but I'd never seen it before.
As for the episode itself, I hated it less than I expected to. The Clois4evah! spoilers helped keep my expectations in check, and AM really showcased her skills as an actress. She took crap material and still put forth an amazing effort toward getting the audience emotionally invested in a storyline that made zero sense and retconned more characters than I can count.
I was so lost after the explosion - it wasn't until the "watchtower" Chlark talk that I even realized that we had actually seen the Doomsday fight and they hadn't just skipped ahead. It never occurred to me that they would drop the conflict they'd been building all season so badly.
It was almost comforting to watch the writers botch that so thoroughly, because it reinforced to me that it's not that the iconisity of Clois is all that brilliant, it's just that these hacks are utterly incapable. They would ruin Chlois if they ever tried to give it to us, and I've seen too many talented fic writers give us well-woven versions of the story that should be told to enjoy watching it ruined in canon.
I hope all is well in your worlds!
