April post

I didn't get a prompt for this month, so here's my default update!

How I'm Doing: I'm OK. It's a slow period at work, so things aren't as hectic as they were in the previous months. However, I'm doing the financial analysis for a project, which I've never done for work before. Hope I remember enough from grad school to put together something that's halfway acceptable!

Also, I went to Corregidor Island last week for our work summer outing! It was great to finally go, especially since my Lolo K had helped disarm the place after World War II. We did team-building exercises, which was an interesting way to see the island - I duck-walked through a tunnel so my thighs were stiff for days afterward - and we got to do a little bit of sightseeing afterward. Naturally, I took pictures! (No password needed!)

It was a very hot day, given that it's the height of summer here plus the entire world is going through El Nino, but I stayed hydrated and made sure I had lots of sunscreen, so I got through the experience all right :)

What I'm Writing: Still splitting my time between my two K-drama WIPs (one already online, the other not) and my Viktor fic. Some pretty important things are going on in all three of my fics, but work is slow. I wonder if it's at least partly because I tend to hold back when writing these crucial parts. Am I the only one who does that?

On the bright side, I finally uploaded an update to my K-drama WIP online - that's something, at least!

What I'm Reading: I'm almost done with Portrait of An Unknown Woman by Vanora Bennett. It's interesting enough to get me to Google the characters (Sir Thomas More and his family, Hans Holbein) and Holbein's works, but sadly not enough to merit a re-read.

Next on my TBR pile is Stormbird, the first of Conn Iggulden's Wars of the Roses series. I've wanted the book for a long time - before any of the others had even come out - but have never seen it outside of its very expensive hardcover format. (I haven't even seen the others here in the Philippines.) I finally bit the bullet and got it, although now I realize that maybe I should have waited until I got to the US. Oh well, there will be other books to buy there :-p

I also picked up #s 2 and 3 of this series called the Mongoliad at a used book/white elephant charity sale at work. (No #1 - as with all used book sales, the selection is limited to what's physically there.) I haven't done any advance reading, but I think it's a fantasy series set during the time of Genghis Khan or something. Hopefully I'll get enough context from the books that I have to enjoy the story; and if I really like it, then maybe I'll try to hunt down the first book!

What I'm Watching: On TV I'm following this Korean drama called Neighborhood Lawyer Jo Deul-ho (it might be translated differently on other sites). It's a really engaging underdog story about an ex-prosecutor who now advocates for the Little Guy.

I like how the show highlights pretty true-to-life social problems, like abusive landlords and substandard childcare facilities, and the lawyer has interesting ways of bringing the bad guys to justice. There's also the overarching plotline about how he's trying to restore his good name - he lost his prosecutor gig, as well as his daughter, when he was set up by enemies in high places to take the fall for them. I really hope they get their just desserts in the end!

I hope everyone's had a good April :) It's my dad's birthday this weekend, so I'll likely be feeding people unless we decide to postpone to a non-payday weekend.

Also, I get Monday off for Labor Day, but am renewing my passport then so I don't exactly get to rest. (Good thing it's not a public holiday, or else I would have had to take a vacation day.) Still, it'll be good to finally get that done and stop feeling like I'm grounded :-p
