February post - How You Doin'?

Feb 26, 2017 10:45

There hasn't been anything super-special to devote an entire LJ post to this month, so here's a standard update!

How I'm Doing. I am doing fine, thank you very much... it's mostly the same old, same old at home and at work.

I guess the biggest change these days is that I am preparing to move from my parents' house to the more work-convenient condo I once shared with my brother. My mom had rented it out over the years since I left my last job for grad school, but I've had enough of my very early-morning commute and asked to rent it from her. The place needs a few repairs and I have yet to get my stuff ready, but I should be living there in a week or so. I'm looking forward to not having to be up by 4:30, getting back to cooking for myself, and hopefully getting out more. The condo is a 20-minute walk to my office, one-way, so I will also get more daily exercise.

We also got our Japanese visas recently. Since I had been there before, I was granted a 5-year, multi-entry visa, which is great :) (The less I have to think about visas, the better!) My whole family was granted entry, so apart from actually packing we are all set for our trip in April-May. I think both my parents are really looking forward to it!

What I'm Writing. Apart from work-related writing, I honestly have not done much of this recently, no thanks to the Sims :-p However, I did start a short K-drama fic to put off working on the difficult parts of my long-pending multi-chapter WIP try and get myself back into the groove, and wrote a good bit of that last night. I've also never dropped the habit of thinking about fic-related stuff during the day, but it's not really writing unless you actually get the words out, right?

Speaking of getting the words out, people posting on LJ are really dwindling, but I will still try to do these monthly posts. I like having a sort of monthly writing exercise that is not work- or fic-related, and at least it's here for anyone who wants to read the extended version of what I'm doing/writing/thinking. There's Facebook for keeping in touch, but it doesn't seem to be a good platform for the kind of writing that I do on LJ.

What I'm Reading. Still working my way through the haul of romance novels I brought back from my grandmother's house last January. It's been a mix of good and bad, and unfortunately the bad is mostly from the new-ish authors I had wanted to try out. Hopefully I'll get the chance to read (and post about) more interesting books when I move out and have more time to browse in bookstores. (I wish I could ask people of recommendations, but I can't guarantee they would be available locally... and shipping stuff from Amazon is expensive.)

What I'm Watching. Due to the need to, well, try and get 7 hours of sleep during the week, I've had to stop watching TV with my parents in the evening. I tried to catch up on weekends, but keep getting distracted by other things that demanded screen time. However, I made the time to watch a couple of episodes of this "historical" Korean drama called Hwarang yesterday and am writing this while in the middle of Episode 6. It's been fun so far - I like the actors and it's an engaging story. There are a couple of other dramas I want to watch. Once again, something to save for when I'm living away from home and have more time for myself!

That's it for the month! Hope everyone is well - let me know how you're doing!
