I read an interview with Amy Lee from "Edge Metal" magazine. What she said seemed pertinent to your post.
Let me see if I can actually dig up an exact quote.
"It is said that you have your whole life to prepare for your first album and then one year to make your second. Lee ignored that when she was writing and recording The Open Door and chose not to rush the creative process, which took two years and allowed her to progress her vocal abilities and explore new songwriting ideas...'I didn't give myself a time limit at all, I think it definitely took longer than most people when they're making their second album. I just started writing and thought to myself, 'I don't care if it takes five years. I want to make an album that is awesome, that I love, and that I feel is worth of being a full piece of art.' "
Mayhap that'll help your decision. :) I listened to the whole thing once. There were things about it that were definitely different, definitely the same...But this one felt much more real than the first
