This is not a pretty entry. Ignore it if you're squeamish about animals being hurt.

Today was nuts at Nikki's work. As I was leaving, a cat came in that had been attacked by a local dog. I ended up helping to weigh it and give it oxygen while they were prepping the x-ray machine, then Nikki brought it in. I heard one of the nurses say "Uh....there should be ribs here." Later, one of the girls showed me where they were feeling, ( Read more... )

The dog was never in danger of dying unless the owner decided to euthanize. Some owners will do so over just not wanting animals, but the staff will generally refuse and adopt the animal out instead. The doctor ended up giving him some painkillers. I really would like to punch that owner in his mouth.
The cat flat-lined just before it would have gotten painkillers. Yeah, it's the natural order of things, but I have this soft spot for cats.

Ugh. People suck sometimes. I could see putting some people in a cage together, but not animals.

This is why I keep my animals locked in the house.

Ditto. Also why there are freaking leash laws.

this is so sad. i used to let me cat out often, but now she's an old lady and pretty much stays inside all the time, sleeping in the least convenient place of course. I don't like to keep them cooped up in the house, which is why my cat is trained.when i first got her i dragged her around on a leash until she figured it out to stay near my feet. Haly will go on walks and follow across busy streets without a leash.
When she goes out now, it's to dig in the sand in the backyard. Thank god it's fenced in, and she can hold her own against other animals but if a large dog attacked her it would be over I fear.
People who want to euthanize animals because they are unwanted should be fined or jailed. That's just sick.
btw, i think it's really great that you and Nikki help out the animals...
