Of cos people can change for the other half... Or rather, it's more about controlling and trying hard... They say a good relationsip doesn't 'just happen'... You have to work for it... So no, it's not about treating each other like kids... it's about being able to live in each other's idiosyncrasies so not to act like kids when he 'dun screw the toothpaste cap bck on' or 'dun wash the cups he drinks and just lay it on the kitchen sink'...
