chapter one of sparrow, edmund, and alister's backstory

Jun 08, 2012 16:41

casey wanted to start working on this as an actual story, and we ended up working on it together. i thought i'd post the first bit of it. i posted a little on flickr, but if you read it there, there's more now (and what i had posted has been edited a little). this is a mixture of both me and casey writing, but mostly it's me cuz i've had more time ( Read more... )

ok, thanks for the tip!! i'm so bad with descriptions, i have to remind myself all the time and it feels so forced as a result :( i'll drop the cheesy mirror bit! i was afraid of waiting too long to describe him hehehe

that's true... i've always hated when there's suddenly some description way far into the book and you're thrown for a loop trying to picture the character differently for the rest of the book. like "aw crap i was picturing them with short brown hair, now it's supposed to be long and black??" maybe it's just me being a putz lol but second chapter is not too far in at all, so i'll definitely have alister describe him!

i dunno why, but i have SUCH a hard time describing pretty much anything :/ i'm good at putting words into pictures, but not at putting pictures into words. i used to be better at it. maybe i should try to find some describing exercises or something lol

Coming along really great! Took me a bit to figure out whether this was BTMS or Bandit's Landing, especially with them talking about Morrow (a detail I actually kind of liked). I like how you kept the characters moving as they contemplated - Edmund spooning out chicken, Alister chewing on his bagel. Makes it feel more alive and dynamic.
