I just read a book by Jon Stewart where he wrote a transcript of Adolph Hitler on Larry King Live. Apparently the holocaust is funny now, but you can only make cracks about it if you're a jew. Sort of like you can only say 'nigger' if your black? Capice?

hmm. Yeah, but we know stalin, purges and gulags are OK for everyone to joke about. How about religion, like Christianity? Can I joke about that ( ... )

How amusing (hmm).

I was telling someone very close to me very recently; that there is no joking, really. Everything we say has some dime of truth in it. Nothing is really funny, no joke is really innocent, it all hits home somewhere. It's only that we pretend it's not in earnest and laugh at it. And when we laugh at it, it becomes degraded and not even worthy of respect. This fact was medically proven or scientifically stated or said be a minister, so it must be true.

And in answer to your sally, I do indeed laugh at myself. In contradiction to the above, I think all things should be laughed at. But then, my father used to 'tease' and mock everything, so nothing was sacred, and I don't think that's right. There should be a way to laugh and yet value. That's my aim.

Agnostic prayer: is this not what we all want, for everyone, but mostly ourselves, to be happy? Why not just say it?

We do so in many ways as a self-defense mechanism. Yes, there was truth in what Jews said, but they needed some way to escape. Sure, it seems horrible to joke about getting made into soap, as if nothing IS sacred, but this was a way for them to deal with something beyond dealing with ( ... )

It's possible to joke and keep a thing sacred, or joke and not. He didn't. I'm not saying everyone has this problem.

Socrates wasn't a traditional sophist. He was angry at the sophists, because their profession was similar to his but less grounded and more superficial, they taught virtually nothing of consequence, and they gave him a bad rep. So he laughed at them.

I don't think *all* joking is really just truth, I think all jokes hit home somewhere, and nothing is entirely frivolous.

At least I hope so.

Not really meaning to argue or be right here, just wandering after a better reality.

There's all kinds of laughing. There's all kinds of truth. All is various.
