Kyuhyun never really understood the minds of his bandmates. Then again, he never really understood why twelve fully grown men would turn into a dribbling pile of goo around a certain cute person who just happened to have a penchant for the colour pink.
He also wondered why, even though none of them ever said it to each other, they told this one person that he was loved above all. It was strange, to say the least. Kyuhyun also wondered why the other reacted as he did to these confessions.
It started with their leader.
Kyuhyun woke up early one morning, much to his chagrin, and walking into the kitchen. He witnessed the weirdest scene in his life that would probably scar him forever.
Sungmin was behind Leeteuk holding onto his waist, while the latter was bent over a table. Both were covered in a generous amount of what appeared to be flour and both seemed to be slightly uncomfortable. Suddenly, Sungmin arched his back in such a way that only he could and Leeteuk’s eyes flashed with something that Kyuhyun had never seen before. Then again, Kyuhyun had never seen anything like this before.
“Sungmin! I love you!” Leeteuk screamed, turning and wrapping his arms around the younger member’s neck. Kyuhyun decided he’d had too much to drink the night before and wandered back to his room, kicking multiple plush toys off his bed and falling asleep once again.
A week or so later, Kangin had returned from drinking with a clearly intoxicated Sungmin attached to his side. Kyuhyun had only noticed their late arrival due to his playing of starcraft and ability to survive on little sleep. Sungmin was giggling softly at something Kangin had bellowed before he’d managed to open to dorm door. Kyuhyun had paused his game to look up at the duo, only in time to hear Kangin begin to laugh again and practically yell “I love you Sungmin”. Kyuhyun stared for the briefest of seconds before once again returning his concentration onto his laptop, un-pausing his game and playing it again. He decided he would question Kangin about the drunk-but-maybe-not-so-drunk confession. And possibly consult their leader… It would be strange if their relationship became a threesome with Sungmin.
In fact, it would be downright creepy.
Nothing much happened for a couple of weeks until Hangeng arrived back from his trip to China. He’d returned with gifts. A scarf for Heechul, sweets for Donghae, something white for Leeteuk, jewellery for Heechul, a book or three for Siwon, a movie for Kibum, a hair brush for Heechul, food for Shindong, a computer game for the magnae, a mirror for Heechul, a diet book for Kangin, some make-up for Eunhyuk… and Heechul… cooking utensils for Ryeowook, turtle caring equipment for Yesung (that was given to Ryeowook), did we mention Heechul?
Finally, he turned his attention towards Kyuhyun’s roommate. Hangeng smiled at the happy member, who sat still, smiling while the other members received their gifts. Hangeng walked over to Sungmin and held out a parcel wrapped fully in pink, including an incredibly huge ribbon, before placing his hand on Sungmin’s head and saying “Wo ai ni”.
Kyuhyun had heard Hangeng say that enough times to Heechul to understand what it meant. Sungmin had simply nodded in response.
Kyuhyun thought this was a strange reaction when someone told you they loved you.
Eunhyuk and Donghae had been the next to “confess”. It was during their promotions on a variety show when Sungmin said something that the other members found funny. It seemed that none of them knew how funny Sungmin could be. Kyuhyun knew, of course, but still laughed when everyone paid attention to the underrated member. Eunhyuk had been on oneside of Sungmin, with Donghae flanking the other and both had leaned over and kissed Sungmin, exclaiming their love loudly to the camera over the joke. Sungmin just smiled and nodded.
Kyuhyun was beginning to think that maybe there was something wrong with Sungmin.
Kyuhyun had bearly heard Shindong’s very vocal love toward the pink boy as the latter had food stuffed from his mouth to China. It had been Sungmin’s turn to cook for the members and he had made a special Japanese cuisine. Kyuhyun had enjoyed it well enough, but then again, he enjoyed all of Sungmin’s cooking. Shindong had bearly started his third helping when Sungmin had entered the room with the rest of the food.
“Sungmin, I think I love you!” he exclaimed, helping himself to more food. Kyuhyun frowned.
Didn’t this guy have a girlfriend?
Heechul’s love was paraded throughout the two dorms once Sungmin bought home his first kitten.
“Sungmin, my darling,” Heenim had purred, draping himself over his pink loving friend. Sungmin stared at him with wide eyes.
“Yah, why are you like this?” Heechul barked. “I am not going to kiss you again!”
Sungmin visibly relaxed with that statement.
Heechul went on. “But I am here to tell you that I love that you bought my Heebum a new playmate and…”
Heechul went on rambling for another few hours, or that’s what it seemed like to Kyuhyun.
“… and I love you.”
Kyuhyun wondered if he heard the last bit wrong. He looked towards Sungmin who looked none the less comfortable than he had been after Heechul told him his lips were safe.
Kyuhyun was confused.
Kibum’s confession was textbook in Kyuhyun’s opinion. Walking back from his shower, he’d almost grabbed the door handle when he heard voices inside. One was Sungmin’s, the other was apparently Kibum.
“I love you!”
Kibum had yelled with the emotion he had been feeling. Kyuhyun himself felt torn by the emotion.
“I know…” Sungmin had calmly replied, in his smooth, but slightly high-pitched voice.
Kyuhyun felt his brow furrow before he let his hand fall from the handle and walk off towards Heechul’s room.
Heechul would surely have some kind of painkiller to stop this pain that was slightly close to his chest.
And getting larger every time he breathed in.
Sungmin and Yesung arrived home late from a practice for their musical. They’d spent a lot of time together. Sungmin was propping up Yesung, with Yesung’s arm being around his shoulders. It seemed that he was limping.
“I tripped and fell during the movement rehearsal. Nothing too serious, just a little twist is all,” Yesung smiled to the rest as they sat on the couch. Ryeowook scolded his elder, making the rest of the laugh in good spirit.
“Sungmin was the one who helped me up the stairs though. You guys know the lift isn’t working?”
Many heads were shook and others exclaimed “oh” and “ah”.
“You should thank your dongsaeng!” Ryeowook chided in his mother-like tone. Yesung smiled cheesily at his younger.
“And you should be respecting your hyung, Wookie-ah! But, I guess you’re right. I love you, Sungmin-ah!” Yesung laughed. Ryeowook mumbled something that sounded oddly like “I’ll respect you when you act like my hyung” which would’ve been very out of character and sound more like Kyuhyun.
Sungmin smiled and nodded. Then he began to laugh and joke with the others until Leeteuk decided they should all hit the sack as they had album preparation s the next morning.
Kyuhyun had sauntered off to bed slowly and didn’t miss the offer Sungmin gave Yesung to help him to his room.
Whatever drugs Heechul had given him obviously weren’t working.
Multiple PD’s, managers, stylist noonas, fans, MCs and cameramen exclaimed how much they loved Sungmin and each time he would smile and nod. Kyuhyun decided he’d finally reached a decision.
One night, late, in their room he asked the question. Sungmin had just gotten out of the shower and was dressed in baggy pants he often used for training and an over-sized tee-shirt that fell slightly off of his left shoulder.
“Hyung,” Kyuhyun began as any well-respecting dongsaeng would. Which he was not.
“Whatever you want, no, I am not buying it for you or doing it for you, do it yourself.” Sungmin replied jokingly. Kyuhyun looked at the older male.
“Hyung, I’m just wondering… how do you take all of these confessions?”
“Huh? What confessions?”
“The ones the other members give you. And… the ones you receive from random people in the street?”
“Which confessions, Kyuhyun-ah?”
“The love confessions!”
“What love confessions!?” Sungmin looked surprised. Kyuhyun became frustrated.
“The ones that everyone gives you! You make everyone fall in love with you and then they confess! Then you always accept them and smile and nod! You must be some type of… of… CONFESSION WHORE!”
Sungmin stepped back at the statement his dongsaeng made. Then he smirked. This was an anomaly that Kyuhyun rarely saw outside of the presence of Heechul, Kangin, Yesung, or all three.
“You know what I think, Kyuhyun-ah? I think… someone’s jealous~!” Sungmin cooed evilly. Kyuhyun felt his face flush; not from embarrassment mind you, but from anger.
“I am not jealous. I am just wondering why you let these people exclaim their love for you and yet you do nothing about it! My sister always taught me that if you receive a confession, you either accept or reject them graciously. You don’t leave them hanging!”
“Really now? I just think someone’s a little cranky because he’s not getting any~”
It was Kyuhyun’s turn to look shocked.
“I meant love confessions! Get your mind out of the gutter, you are too young for that! I am going to have to tell Leeteuk that Heechul corrupted your mind…”
“Hyung!”
“Kyuhyun, I’m tired. Can we discuss this in the morning?”
Kyuhyun knew this maneuver well. Sungmin often used it as a diversion tactic because he was older.
“No, hyung. Answer me.” This was not a statement. Statement’s were reserved for stating the obvious. This was a command that was to be obeyed. That, or Kyuhyun could bring out the big guns.
“Kyu-ah… you said everyone… does that include you?” Sungmin whined.
“No, do not change the question! Answer me, hyung, or I got and talk to Teukie-hyung!”
Sungmin blanched visibly.
“Okay, okay. I’ll tell you!”
Kyuhyun smirked, because once again he had used his magnae powers to defeat his evil hyungs.
“I don’t accept or reject their proposals because they aren’t in love with me, Kyuhyun. They are just stating a fact. They are telling me that they appreciate me and what I do. This is why I don’t have to give an answer.
“Oh… that was… very anti-climactic…” Kyuhyun pouted. This was a very strange sight.
“Were you expecting something flashier?”
“No… yes… maybe?”
“Well how about if I said that there is only one confession I would accept.”
“Oh, really? Whose?”
“You think I’ll tell you that?”
“Yeah~!”
“Fine. The person whose confession I’ll accept is… a person who doesn’t just love me, but is in love with me~”
“Hyung, seriously!”
“I was being serious.”
“But I want a name…” Kyuhyun whined. Sungmin smiled.
“The person has to confess to me first, and then I’ll tell you, okay?”
“Promise?”
“Promise~”
“Fine… night hyung.”
“Goodnight, Kyu-ah”
A few minutes of silence passed.
“Hey hyung,” Kyuhyun started. He wondered whether his hyung would react.
“Hmmmm,” the tired Sungmin replied from his bed.
“Love you.” In the darkness, Kyuhyun couldn’t see if his hyung was smiling and nodding.
There was another pregnant pause; the words were left hanging in the air.
“I know you do, Kyu. And I love you.”
