Today's the day of the big LJ strike to protest some of the new owners' actions, specifically the decision not to issue new basic (free) accounts, and the short-term and poorly thought-out ban on certain types of user-chosen interests. I thought I'd post my thoughts about the idea ( Read more... )

Yeah, I read some people talking about this "boycott" or "strike" and felt the urge to paste a dictionary definition of those terms...but then, I thought better of it and realized my time was better spent enjoying a day with fewer people blogging ignorantly.

You're clearly derisive of the "strike" action, but what's your opinion of the underlying grievance?

I won't care even if they do away with Basic accounts altogether; ignoring banner ads is a skill every Web user should have developed in their first week online.

The so-called "censorship" of user interests is more troubling, but they've reversed that decision, so I don't see any need to comment unless it recurs down the road.
