Today was my last day working full-time.  Now I begin my part-time bid, working 3:30-8:30 with Tues/Wed. off.  I'm very happy about this.  It's pretty easy to pick up hours, so I can get 40/week whenever I want, but I don't have to, and so it should be a lot easier to get time off to go flying around the world. :)  Also, now that people are going ( Read more... )

Do you get any benefits? Did you have any to begin with?

Yeah, I had full medical/dental before (BlueCross), and on part-time I have to pay something like $50/mo. for the same benefits. I might just pay $70/mo for Medica, though.

Of course, the only time I've needed to use my insurance since I started working for Northwest was two days AFTER I was laid off--during the 3 weeks when I had no insurance!

I don't have a lot of time off (since it'll all be used up when we go to India), but I'm still interested in adventuring with you if I can manage to get the time off from work.

Here are some places where I might be up for going (where I might be able to swing some free lodging) if you're up for it:
Seattle
San Diego
Portland
Juneau
New Mexico (no potential free lodging here, just awesome food that I haven't found anywhere in MN)
Madrid

And remember that Dave and I are going to India Dec 28th and returning Jan 15. Feel free to try to come visit us there at some point during that time (we'll be staying with my friend in Pune for about the last four days so I'd have to check with him to see if you'd have a place to stay, but the rest of the time it seems pretty likely Dave's family would put you up and treat you like a king). Our engagement party is on January 1st so try to plan to be there by then, k? :-)

Okay, here's the schedule:

1-7 Sept - Seattle
14-28 Sept - San Diego
1-7 Oct - Portland
14-28 Oct - Juneau
1-7 Nov - New Mexico
14 Nov-14 Dec - Madrid
28 Dec-15 Jan - India

Got it? Hope you're able to get those days off.

If that doesn't work, we should plan some type of weekend thing soon. I still want to visit all of those places. Once Tanya gets settled we should go to Portland (and bring some others).

I want to go to Alaska too, but we don't fly to Juneau, unfortunately. I could get you as far as Anchorage or Fairbanks, but then you'd have to buy a ticket which is like $350! But I think Anchorage is nice too. We just wouldn't want to go once it's cold.

As for visiting you in India...that would certainly be exciting! I'm not sure I'd want to risk going so close to the holidays, but I'll keep it in mind. Since I wasn't able to go to the engagement party here, I might as well catch the second one... Are you getting Da Afghan over there, too? :)

Anyway, thanks for all the suggestions, we'll figure something out soon.

A month in Madrid? I would totally be up for that..except for the fact that I'm in freakin' school. Dude, shorten the time a bit and I can provide Spanish ;)

Yeah, who are you? I actually wouldn't want to stay in Madrid for a month, more like a few days. But there's certainly no shortage of things to do across the pond.

Ryan I want to come! I am so glad to hear that things are getting better for you. Hey you going to Dad's 50th birthday party? I have been thinking of flying in for it but don't have any money to do so. Well talk to you soon. I love you.

I can only get you a discount on Northwest destinations (Japan or Europe), but even then it's still expensive. ~$450 return for Business class. I don't know when the party is, but I probably won't be able to go. I have to work on Labour day, of course (and I want to). It's a little late for me to be trying to work something out. No one ever tells me anything.
