This weekend, I elected to finish the job of applying finish to a pair of American cherry shaker side stands, and a spalted European cherry candle stand.
The side stands will either be sold or go to SF, depending on the current owners' election.
The candle stand was fun to make - turning and some other interesting bits, including hand-cut sliding dovetails....now I understand why Shaker craft was so prized; this is difficult.
Photos and commentary below.
Candle stand, from the side - the whole thing came from a few lengths of ten-years-dry cherry from Amador or El Dorado county, a tree which was planted when the earliest European settlers showed up. It's wonderful stuff and I wish I had more of it. This table will probably go out on etsy.com or something - I like it but we just don't have space for it. I wanted to make it, and have done, but we have all we need now.....this is a bit superfluous for a 1370 ft^2 house. It's not perfect by a long shot but it's pretty and once I get the final coats of finish on it, it'll go.....somewhere where someone has space and can appreciate it.
To the right of the stand is a sideboard I made a billion and four years ago, which we outgrew almost immediately and have moved three times. I will not move it again, no matter how pretty it is....I wish I'd built a proper case piece, as it would have the storage space we need. Next time, maybe.

So that's the latest.....
