voleuse is running a fabulous music challenge called the
Frankenstein Meme, which I have cannibalised for my own prurient music needs, and since one shouldn't take and not give, here's my take.
Frankenstein Mix

1. A song that wakes you up in the morning.
Fiona Apple 'Extraordinary Machine. The oboe, the flipping triangle, Fiona's attitude, the kiss-my-ass-because-I-rock tenor of the song. What can I say, there's just something about it that makes you feel like you can fucking do anything, so bring it.
2. A song you loved in high school.
Slick Rick 'Children's Story' It boggles my mind that there are people who don't know about
Slick Rick, but he belongs to an era of rap that was, you know, good. Here's a song about crackheads, stealing, and undercover cops in D.C. that you know, is actually about doing the right thing.
3. A song that mentions a dead celebrity.
Queen 'Killer Queen. Marie Antoinette, darling. And caviar and drinking and Freddie Mercury.
4. A song you'd be embarrassed to listen to with your grandmother.
Matt Nathanson 'Laid' - If my grandmother were alive, she would probably not want to hear me singing about how I only come when I'm on top. Yeah. Just a thought. <--- Yes, this is a cover of the James song.
5. A song that MTV will never play in a million, billion years.
James Brown 'Papa's Got a Brand New Bag' - Dude, it's James Brown. MTV sucks anyway. Except for
Made. I love Made.
6. A song with a title that ends in y.
Kanye West f/ Lupe Fiasco 'Touch the Sky' - Ah, Kanye. Larger than life in every way possible. Perhaps you've seen the video with Nia Long and Pamela Anderson?
7. A song that makes you crave something.
Weezer 'Hash Pipe' OR
The Beautiful South 'Don’t Marry Her (Fuck Me)' 8. A cover song that you think is better than the original.
Jeff Buckley 'The Way Young Lovers Do' (live). Van Morrison is fabulous. No one is denying that, but Jeff singing Van Morrison will make your hair blow back, your toes curl, and you'll probably want to change your knickers too.
9. The original of #8. -- No disrespect to Van, but seriously, that song belongs to Jeff. Although, you know, Van totally rocks out with
And it Stoned Me. Have that one instead.
10. A song that reminds you of a fandom OTP. Okay, see now the issue here is that I'm a woman without a main fandom right now, and I've never been a hardcore OTP type person. *shutupKassie* Instead I'll give you a song for a character or two.
Eels 'Novocaine for the Soul' (Galen);
Notorious B.I.G 'Sky's the Limit' (Ari);
Kylie Minogue 'Red Blooded Woman' (Kara)
11. You have been caught mouthing the lyrics to this song.
Dr Dre f/ Eminem 'Forgot About Dre' -- Fuck you too, bitch, call the cops, I'ma kill you and them loud ass motherfucking barking dogs. Have neighbours; let them have pets; you'll be singing along gleefully, too.
12. A song that will always make you think of a movie.
Badly Drawn Boy 'Something to Talk About' -- From the About a Boy soundtrack, I have nothing but love for this song, because it's just so fucking happy. Plus, About A Boy just had the single life totally sussed.
13. A song that should totally have fic written about it. You know this one was really fucking difficult, because normally if I think a song needs fic, I just write the fic. Considering how much you lot liked the bhangra though, I'm interested to see what you'd do with
Postal Workers Canceling Stamps At The University Of Ghana Post Office recorded by James T. Koetting 1975 14. A song you wish they'd play in elevators.
Junior Senior 'Move Your Feet'. It would start with the feet tapping, and then the heads nodding. Soon there'd be moshing and hollering, and the lift would plummet and kill everyone. I see why they don't play this. Runner-up:
Kaiser Chiefs 'I Predict a Riot' 15. You'll stop listening to this song when they pry your MP3 player out of your cold, dead hands.
Jeff Buckley 'Satisfied Mind' A song about the legacy you want to leave behind, I actually want this song played at my funeral, so you know, when they pry it out of my hands it won't have to go far.
