Hello, Neil, it's Rosella. I know it's terribly short notice, what with the play tomorrow and all, and that there's really no way to modify all our costumes to accommodate the cold weather in time, but Cain and I had thought that we might at least be able to come up with enough warm cloaks for the cast to wear during the performance, so we don't all catch our death of cold onstage.

I don't know that they'll all exactly match, but we'd thought it would be better than nothing. Do let me know what you think, won't you?

Hi Rosella! Um... I think that's a good idea. We'll have to see if we can find somewhere to move everything... Still no word on if the party's being moved, but well. We'll manage, I know we will.

We should tell everyone to wear warm things under their costumes, too-- long johns and stuff. If we can find them this time of year. [siiigh] Which means we'll have to throw together some sort of a set... We shouldn't need much, though. And maybe the girl doing the magic for Robin's costume-- um, Robin Robin, not me-- can do something...

Where there's a will, there's a way, as the saying goes. We'll come up with something. And besides, worrying about this is keeping me from worrying about having to act tomorrow, so that's a small consolation.

...What sorts of things will we need for the set? If it's just flowers and greenery on short notice...then I may know of someone who can help, even despite the snow.

Flowers and greenery, a couple of trees would be good. If we can find a big cloth and some paints we can paint a forest backdrop pretty easily. It won't be great, maybe, but it should work.

And you shouldn't worry about acting! You're going to be great.

As uncertain and embarrassing as their relationship often was, some things came easily. They never touched in public, and only cautiously in private-- afraid of upsetting some tenuous, untested balance, of going too far. At night they tumbled into bed just as awkwardly; but somehow, drowsy, always managed to curl up comfortably by morning.

Neil roused a little as Todd moved, shifting and stretching, not awake enough to know quite what was going on. He blinked once or twice and abandoned the idea of keeping his eyes open, instead pulling Todd closer, turning his face downward, cheek pressed against the other boy's hair. Satisfied he settled once again-- not quite asleep, but certainly not awake.

An early riser by nature, Neil had already learned that Todd was a very bad influence on him. Much easier, much nicer, to linger in warm half-dreams, long past the hour when he'd normally be up and about.

It was nice, though. A little more aware than Todd seemed to be-- certainly more aware than he wanted to be, given the embarrassment that would inevitably catch up with him-- he made no move to get up. This easy, pleasant contact was rare, and he didn't intend to give it up any sooner than he had to. Funny, he thought, that they could share a bed with minimal guilt when they couldn't even consider kissing. Maybe it was just that, having spent so long sharing rooms with others (even before they'd met,) they had less of a sense of privacy. They could imagine this was no less innocent.

Neil sighed quietly, the breath ruffling Todd's hair slightly; he smiled.

To anyone with love and respect for life: In New York there is a Japanese man who sells "bonsai-kittens." Sounds like fun huh? NOT! These animals are squeezed into a bottle. Their urine and feces are removed through probes. They feed them with a kind of tube. They feed them chemicals to keep their bones soft and flexible so the kittens grow into the shape of the bottle. The animals will stay their as long as they live. They can't walk or move or wash themselves. Bonsai-kittens are becoming a fashion in New York and Asia.

It's not your fault, you didn't do anything. I should have been home, I would've gone with him and--

He's-- not yet, b-but. She said she can fix it, that she'll fix it. So he'll be all right. He will.

The tension that had been lessening, gradually, since Neil spoke to Princess Tutu lifted entirely as Todd said his name. It wasn't unexpected-- Rosella had warned him that it might hit his friend like this-- but he couldn't help but worry. What if something had gone wrong, what if Todd had been hurt in some permanent, deep way that they hadn't foreseen?
But hope flooded back when the other boy spoke, and Neil fairly flung himself on the sofa, throwing his arms around Todd, choking a little on his relief.

Touch is much easier than talking, at moments like these. It's funny, because more often than not both boys would tell you exactly how important words are; together, though, it seems like they can never find the right ones to say to each other. Having Todd feel is more important, anyway, than having him speak-- after all the other boy has always been quiet at best, and perhaps this was only a change of quality, and not of quantity.

He rests his head on Todd's shoulder, aware of the dampness seeping into his shirt, only managing not to cry himself because he's been emotionally exhausted by the past few days. Even so he's not sure he'll be able to keep from tearing up sooner or later-- and for once he isn't ashamed by the fact, the raw depth of what he feels. Maybe you can't know how much you need something until you lose it, even for a little while. Trembling fingers curled in Todd's hair, he tries to steady himself.
