I think it's the best show on public radio, so I am so honored to be on it. I wish MN Public Radio still carried it, but I'm very glad that I have access to podcasts.

(Did you hit up Anne Strainchamps with a thick stack of disability-rights rhetoric before the interview?)

Heh heh heh. It was a combination of the fact that the interview was 1/2 an hour edited down to 10 minutes, and the fact that she obviously did some good prep ahead of time. Her producer is a rock star.

I am in awe at how articulate you are even on-the-spot, even when asked to consider deeply emotional questions.

Thank you so much for doing that. I teared up at a couple of points during the interview. Obviously, our situations are different, but oh, did it resonate for me.

I had second thoughts afterward about how honest and open I was, since my confessions about personal issues were going to overshadow my statements about how to treat disabled people in public, but you are the second person with chronic health issues who has said something similar, so now I am so so happy I did.

The thing about disability, and chronic issues, is that we are different according to the medical establishment, and we are different as we are individuals, but we share so so so many similarities.

I think the section at the end about your personal issues actually gave even more weight and significance to your earlier statements, because it gave such an intense personal insight into WHY they're so important. Talking about the ways that disability can make us feel like our adulthood and independence have been taken away from us makes it even more clear why it's SO important that other people not treat disabled people as less-than-full-adults.
