I suppose if I weren't so miserable I would find it funny that I can accept having a fake disease with such aplomb but the common cold fills me with self pity and endless despair.

I firmly believe that illnesses like colds and stomach bugs just mess with our mines and tell us how much life just sucks, so we become mopey and miserable in a situation that we should be able to handle without so much dread. ;) At least that's my thoughts on it.

fwiw, zinc lozenges, while awful, actually work to cut down the length & severity of colds. There's actual data on it.

But. Some things. The guy who figured this out is no longer selling 'em, but has advice on the commercially available stuff. And... note that one finds honey-lemon ones in drugstores, IDK why, since citric acid negates the effect. (Something to do with zinc ions getting into the mucus membranes & thence into the sinuses...) And in general one wants to double the suggested doses on any of these boxes.

So what we figure is, if you get 'em go for the horrible cherry ones, and use twice as much as they say on the box :/
