"They always burn the beans," complains a cheerful voice behind her. "Not that I would know personally, of course."

Ava turns, somewhere between cheerful and irritated-- two moods she is oddly good at entertaining simultaneously.

"Fyarlbucks," explains a short, pleasant-faced woman with curly dark hair. "Of course, it's still better than the coffee this place used to serve. The blood of virgins is all well and good, but it has to be kept fresh or it congeals terribly."

Ava blinks at her.
