After the stunt that she pulled, Hyukjae wasn’t expecting to get any nice treatment from Donghae and true enough, as soon as the latter got home, he confronted her and it resulted into an ugly one.
Hyukjae who was pacing back and forth inside her room almost jumped when she heard the door slam loudly. She knew she triggered a storm, but heck she’s not prepared to face Donghae like that.
She was facing the other way when she felt her bedroom door flew open. She spun with a nervous smile playing on her lips. She watched his face and instantly goosebumps appeared all over her body as his dark expression reminded her of his expression during the incident in one of their school classrooms.
“So what the hell was that about?” Donghae said, his thin lips barely parting.
“I-I asked you to do it... Hae, please.. understand.. I-I just want our future to be peaceful” Hyukjae started backing off when Donghae slowly walked towards her.
“Didn’t I tell you that you don’t have any fucking rights to meddle with my affair with Miyoung?”
Then they were face to face. Hyukjae stared at the handsome face. The anger written on it failed to make him any less beautiful. But then her fear of Donghae was suddenly replaced by concern as she saw that the left side of Donghae’s face was red, it was a slapmark. She was so sure of it, there were also scatch marks on his cheek down to his neck. Absentmindedly, she reached out to caress his face.
“She hurt you...” she whispered quietly. She met his eyes “how can you let her hurt you like this, yet you wouldn’t give me a chance...? you know I’ll never do that to you..”
Donghae felt little jolts of electricity tickle his skin with Hyukjae’s featherlight touches. He almost got lost in it, the sensation was comforting. He was only snapped back to consciousness when he heard her voice. Did she really think that he would just let her off?
In a split second, Donghae grabbed Hyukjae by the wrist and held it tightly. She whimpred at the sudden assault and he knew she was not faking it. He felt bad about having to physically hurt her but she was damn going overboard and it needs to stop.
“Know your place Hyukjae”
“I know my place Donghae... I’m going to be your wife..”
“A wife in name. Remember that. Only in name...” Donghae let go of her wrist with force that it hit her chest quite loudly. “Try challenging me more Hyukjae, I might just call this thing off and I don’t fuckin care if I go to jail.” Donghae turned his back on her
“Sometimes I feel so stupid falling in love with you... even more so stupid because I don’t want to let go even if you keep on hurting me... I’ll give you space for now Hae.. but I promise.. I’m not giving you up..” Hyukjae said the last line with full determination. She has to let Donghae know that him hurting her wouldn’t make her stop. No matter how hard he does it, she just wouldn’t.
After all, Love is persistent. Love never gives up.
Donghae’s jaw clenched hearing the other’s statement. He doesn’t know what to do with Hyukjae anymore.
---
Another loud thud was heard a few moments later. After that Hyukjae heard Donghae’s car pulling away from the driveway. Tears rushed down her cheeks again. She was feeling all kinds of hurt right that moment. She’s done almost everything that she’s capable of to make Donghae appreciate her but he never does.
Instead of soaking herself in misery she decided to go out. She needs a breather.
Not knowing where to go, she drove around then she was surprised to find herself at the orphange. The kids were ecstatic to see her. They’re not used to seeing her on a weekday but they were undeniably pleased. For a while, her worries were lifted off her shoulder as she helped around to prepare the kids’ food. She also read them bedtime story. After that she tucked the little ones to bed.
She was offered coffee before going home and she didn’t decline. She actually love talking with the nuns because she thinks they’re so full of wisdom.
“We heard you’re getting married Hyukkie?” the mother superior implored gently and she nodded in response. “He’s very lucky... you’ll be an amazing mother...” she didn’t know why but her heart skipped at the possibility that she will be the mother of Donghae’s child.
“Thank you sister..”
“I don’t know what exactly you’re going through right now.. but I can see the sadness.. you’re a good person Hyukkie, all the problems you’re having right now, they’ll go away in time.. you just have to be strong..”
I just have to be strong.
----
Like what she said to Donghae , she gave him space. She would cook dinner for Donghae (which he never touches anyway) then she would go to the orphanage and spend time there.
---
Hyukjae skipped seeing the kids that afternoon, she recieved her father’s monthly donation for the orphanage and decided to shop for supplies that the kids might need. The orpanage is very strict when it comes to accepting donation they prefer accepting non monetary goods.
She enjoyed the activity very much, shopping for the kids is one of her favorite activities for it makes her feel like one too. She giggled when she remembered that she included some bags of candies, chips and cookies that the kids will definitely love. She thinks that a little junkfood every once in a while wouldn't hurt.
The supermarket was almost on its closing time when she finished her spree, with two grocery staffs assisting her, they went to her car only to find the tires flat. One of the staffs volunteered to call a cab for her which she appreciated. She originally planned to take the good directly to the orphanage but she decided that it was already too late in the evening and that they might be sleeping already. She directed the driver to their apartment.
The lights in their apartment were still on when she got home. The cab driver was kind enough to help her unload all of the grocery bags and boxes. Once she made sure that everything was inside the apartment she paid the driver and thanked him for bringing her home safely. That’s when she heard footsteps descending from the stairs.
“You understand that our family isn’t as well off as your family right?” Donghae opened coldly which got Hyukjae confused.
“What do you mean?” Hyukjae asked.
“What did you buy all this nonsense stuff for?” Donghae glared at her. She finally understood. Ever since they started living together, Donghae’s family took the responsibility of providing for her. She barely used the card his parents gave her. Aside from she has her own card she really doesn’t spend much unless she finds it necessary.
“I hope you’d learn to ask before you accuse..” She retaliated softly. “I didn’t use your parents money for these..and these are not mine. This is for the orphanage my family sponsors. My father sent his monthly donation and that’s what I used.” Hyukjae avoided meeting Donghae’s eyes. She’s tired and seeing resentment in his eyes would only worsten how she’s feeling.
Donghae felt ashamed after hearing Hyukjae’s explanation.
“Whatever” Donghae dismissed Hyukjae. His stubborn pride prevented him from apologizing to Hyukjae. He marched back upstairs only to hear his name being called softly.
“Hae-ah..”
“what?”
“Can you drop me off the orphanage tomorrow?” Hyukjae’s voice was hopeful. “that’s if you’re not busy…”
“Okay..” Donghae said without looking at Hyukjae. He just feels he needs to do it so make peace with his guilt after throwing insults at Hyukjae.
Hyukjae’s eyes widened she never, never expected that Donghae would agree before she can think of anything else, she found herself running towars Donghae and hugging him from behind.
“Thank you…”
Donghae was utterly shocked with the other’s action but undeniably, warmth started spreading across his chest at the other’s gesture.
They stayed like that for a couple of moments until Donghae removed Hyukjae’s arms that was srapped around his waist.
“I’m sleeping” He said faking a yawn. Leaving a grinning Hyukjae behind.
That was their first conversation in almost one week and Hyukjae was just so happy.
---
The smile carried on until the following morning and only got wider when Hyukjae saw Donghae coming out of his bedroom just as she was coming out of hers.
Donghae was wearing something very similar to her own get up. She was wearing a dark blue skinny jeans, White collared sports shirt and sneakers.
“Good morning!” She chirped quite enthusiastically.
“Morning” Donghae replied in a tonelessly but what matters to Hyukjae is that he replied.
“Shall we go?”
“yeah sure.”
The 45 minute trip was very silent. Hyukjae contented herself by looking at Donghae through the mirror.
“Stop staring it’s annoying.” Donghae uttered making Hyukjae blush furiously.
“Err sorry..” She didn’t actually think that Donghae would notice.
Donghae was surprised how the kids were all over Hyukjae when they arrived at the orphanage. She became so occupied, she didn’t even know how to attend to first. They were all chirping “unnie” and “noona” It seemed to him that they were very familiar of her. He watched as she laugh heartily while playing with them. It seems like she will be a very ideal mom.
His train of thoughts got cut off when he felt hands on his shoulder.
“Thank you for coming with Hyukjae today” The mother superior smiled at him gently. He replied with a bow. “She’s lovely isn’t she?”
“She is..”
“Please don’t make her sad anymore..” Donghae was surprised to hear that. “Whatever mistake she has done, I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive her. She did out of love. That girl loves you..” Donghae was about to open his mouth to ask a question but the older woman seems to have read his mind.
“No.. she didn’t say anything.. but she’s a very transparent person. I’ve know her for almost 7 years. I can tell that she’s sad everytime she’d visit us.”
“I don’t know Mother.. I..I love someone else..”
“I’m not asking you to love her back.. just be kinder to her..”
“I’ll try..” Donghae said non commitedly.
For the next three hours, Donghae learned more about Hyukjae and though he didn’t want to acknowledge it, he had a newfound respect for her. She might be a bitch given other circumstances, but he also learned how much of a good person she is.
Hyukjae said her goodbyes to the kids. They almost didn’t want to let her go. Donghae heard a lot of questions asking her when she’s going to be back.
With one last wave to the kids, she turned to Donghae.
“Is it okay if I treat you to lunch?”
“Okay, I’m hungry..”
“Sorry if you waited long..”
Donghae just shrugged his shoulder. Hyukjae smiled.
“I want to eat something unhealthy.” Donghae stated.
“Me too.”
“Burgers?”
“Up to you..”
So they went to a fastfood restaurant. Hyukjae loved watching Donghae eat with full appetite.
“Thank you for accompanying me today Hae.. I guess I’ll just see you later at home..” She smiled a little. Donghae’s brows furrowed.
“Why?”
“I still have to pick up my car..”
“I already asked somebody to do it..” Donghae said feeling slightly embarrassed.
Hyukjae gaped at Donghae for a while trying to process if what she heard is true.
“You did?” She said disbelievingly.
“I did..”
“thank you.. but why?”
Donghae felt really thankful that Hyukjae’s phone rang because he doesn’t know how to answer her question. After she put her phone down she looks at him.
“Uhm, mom asked me to come over to our house.. She said I need to fit my gown..” Pink blush spread through Hyukjae’s face.
“Okay..”
“Uhm, you can not come if you don’t have to do something..” Hyukjae bit her lip. Buttewrflies starting to fill her tummy.
“It’s okay..” Donghae said sounding uninterested but at the back of his head, he was envisioning how Hyukjae would look like in a gown. “Let’s go.. we wouldn’t want to keep them waiting. Donghae stood up and headed towards the parking lot. Hyukjae doesn’t know what has gotten into Donghae but she was certainly thankful for the slight improvement of his attitude towards her.
