I really thought the dance number was gonna happen haha.
I only had one thing I really wanted from The Falcon and the Winter Solder series and that was to see Sam Wilson in his Captain America suit. Preferably kicking ass. Honestly, that's all I expected and what I waited for. The rest of it? Whatever the plot was going to be and how Sam and Bucky's friendship and relationship developed or not, and who their enemies were. All of that was just cherries on top. What I wanted was Sam Cap.
They made me wait for it. But the moment when it came didn't disappoint! I was screaming (quietly) into my hands as soon as Sam appeared. It was a whole moment. lol. I had been waiting so long! It was all I wanted! and then there it was. He looked splendid, and those wings are neat! Also Redwing is back, still chirping, and that made me very happy.
I was concentrating so much on Sam that a lot of the rest of it is a blur to be honest, but that's okay.
Other things:
~ Sam's speech to the dumb senator who should be punched in the neck was awesome, and it was great to see Sam rise up truly into the role of Captain America, but what spoke to me more of Sam's greatness and his worthiness to be Captain America, more than stopping Karli and changing the minds of the GRC, more than stopping Walker, more than anything else that happened in all six episodes, was his scenes with Isaiah Bradley. Sam got Isaiah closure, and he stood by Isaiah and he talked to him, and he didn't force Isaiah in any away at all to let go of his anger or his justified rage, but he still never gave up on him. And through that, Sam was able to show Isaiah hope and pride. And that just fucking blew my mind. (Anthony and Carl! Just so great).
~I LOVED Bucky's phone conversation with Karli. They hadn't much spoken before. Sam did all the talking with Karli previously. To see her try to win Bucky over to her side and he's just...the winter soldier. He has seen it all. Up close. On all sides. The definition of 'been there and done that.' And what struck me more is that he really is a free agent. He is free to attach himself to whomever and whatever. And who he chooses to align himself with has meaning. And he's chosen Sam. And he didn't start off freely choosing Sam. He inherited Sam from Steve, but by the end of the series, HE chooses Sam for himself. As his new Captain America. That's really quite powerful.
~ The look on Bucky's face watching Sam take on the shield and the mantle and the title, and those wings, and then watching him during Sam's talk to the GRC (and those senators circling around Sam to listen to him even if they're dumb about it but how Sam gets them to change) was really just heart melting for me. Bucky spends most of his time in the series trying to fight against the feeling of being lost in this new world he's living in -- no Steve, no Hydra, no Wakanda. But he has Sam, finally. He's got something more than just a shield as family.
~ Anyone who has ever read any of my stories that feature Bucky knows what it means to me to see Bucky with kids. I melted into a pile of goo. YOU GUYS I LITERALLY WROTE A SCENE WHERE KIDS DANGLE OFF BUCKY'S ARM. I'm probably not the only one that wrote a scene like that, I don't claim to be original, BUT STILL. I AM DEAD WITH LOVE.
~Is Batroc really dead? I kind of hope not. He's great. I'm going to miss him.
~Sharon IS the Power Broker. Well, no surprise there. I kind of love it and i'm also heartbroken.
~ ugh there had to be more Zemo... always meddling that one.
~Other stuff happened. To be honest, I didn't care if those GRC guys all died lol. But, I'm glad Sam and Bucky (and Walker I guess) saved them. I can admit I wanted something a little bigger to happen (WHERE IS MY DANCE NUMBER? WHERE??), but the stakes were about as high as one can expect for this show, and as soon as Sam took up the shield and accepted the fact that he is Captain America, the threat got squashed.
~ Not sure what to make of Walker. I don't really like him any more than before, which is to say I don't like him at all, but I did like that he chose to help rescue people rather than descend into utter madness (and I swear at one point I was like oh snap he's going to rip his face off now! But alas, no) but then that scene with Valentina and his wife (I am actually worried about Walker's wife.... that's not going to end well) and he's what... agent? in a new/same uniform? And so weirdly pathetically happy about it? He was jumping up and down. It was creepy. But I guess that's what it was meant to be! And I assume probably like the comics.
~ eta: I was going to ignore the bit about Sam saying he might die as a result of being Captain America because it hurts to even think about it but i also know that's a very real risk now. but, no dying for Sam, please.
~ The entire last scene could have lasted for another full hour episode and it wouldn't be enough. <3. Also I can have Sam with his arm around Bucky for always. <3 <3 <3
I need a new Sam Cap icon.
