Riza watched Ed stare hungrily out the window at the passersby going about their daily activities. "...Are you all right?"

Ed immediately pasted on a sunny smile as he looked at her. "Sure I am. Why wouldn't I be?"

Riza just looked at him with a slight frown. After a couple of minutes, Ed's smile faltered before he lowered his head.

"No. No, I'm not," he said in a small voice. Ed moved over, making room on the seat and Riza took the silent invitation. She was prepared to have to wait for Ed to start speaking but he started almost immediately. "I'm homesick. Really, really homesick. And I'm not sure where for anymore. Resembool or below Central."

Riza sucked in a breath before releasing it in a low hiss. "Have you told anyone else this?"

Ed nodded hesitantly. "Yes. But only because it was related to something else being talked about at the time; otherwise, I wouldn't have said anything to that person. I was originally planning on telling you first. And then possibly going to the alt that's my landlord and letting him know about my wanting to go back below the city since it's something he should probably know."

He gave her a weak smile. "If it helps any, I don't exactly feel drawn to it in a 'must go back or I'll lose my sanity' way. Just... I don't know. Chances are it's because I don't really know where I belong anymore."

Riza studied her interlocked fingers as she thought. "Have you tried going back to Resembool?"

Ed shook his head. "No. I've been too paranoid about being found. Among other things." He unconsciously shivered before biting his lip. "I'm probably gonna go soon though. Even if I don't visit Winry and Aunty Pinako, I want to at least visit Mom and possibly go wandering around to various places to check things. Which I'd do at night so there'd be less chance of someone seeing me."

Riza nodded understandingly even as she frowned. "I'm certain I don't need to tell you that going is an extremely bad idea."

"I'm perfectly aware of that," Ed said wearily. "For that matter, being here is a bad idea but here I am."

He scooted closer to her so he could rest his head against her shoulder. "Staring out the window like that is bad for me, isn't it?"

"Yes, it is."

Ed sighed. "I should break myself of the habit. It'd probably be easier to do with all the curtains closed but your neighbors'll notice something weird after awhile."

Riza started running her fingers through his ponytail. "Undoubtedly so."

"I should probably take a nap. 'M so damn tired," Ed murmured, closing his eyes and feeling some tension leave as he just let himself relax and enjoy the feel of Riza's fingers.

"What have you been doing?"

"Overdoing it with working in an effort to keep myself too distracted to get homesick. It even actually works for the most part. Until I go to bed, anyway."

Riza winced. That was what she was afraid of. "Well, the 'you'll make yourself sick doing that' lecture won't work but it's still not a good thing to do to yourself."

"I know," Ed mumbled, before snuggling closer for more warmth.
