Well, I finished The Giver last night. Loved every second of it. In my opinion, one of the best books ever written. So I went to borders today and picked up Gathering Blue and The Messenger, which are "companions" to The Giver. But yeah, I love that book, and hopefully I'll love these ones too. yay! ^___^

That is one of the most depressing books EVER!! Oh, and if you ever meet my grandfather, and just say the giver, he'll prolly start sobbing.

Ok, I didn't find it depressing at all. Ever since you told me it was one of the most depressing books ever, I kept waiting in the book for something really sad to happen. But, maybe it affects different people in different ways. Or maybe I truly am heartless...

"In a world with no poverty, no crime, no sickness and no unemployment, and where every family is happy, 12-year-old Jonas is chosen to be the community's Receiver of Memories. Under the tutelage of the Elders and an old man known as the Giver, he discovers the disturbing truth about his utopian world and struggles against the weight of its hypocrisy. With echoes of Brave New World, in this 1994 Newbery Medal winner, Lowry examines the idea that people might freely choose to give up their humanity in order to create a more stable society. Gradually Jonas learns just how costly this ordered and pain-free society can be, and boldly decides he cannot pay the price."

This is what it says on amazon, but I really cant explain what the book is about.
