Contrasting Depressions

These are two poems that feel depression in their own ways. I am obviously of the Larkin school of sadness. I re-read the Neruda a few weeks ago, and was stricken by its beauty, but also how it wasn't mine ( Read more... )

have you ever read vallejo? he was another spanish poet, way less famous than neruda but also AMAZING. i suggest him. has a great depth of sadness and wisdom and. i don't know. good stuff. he was very young. died young too. true poet death!

you get a double-fisting of sad if you alternate reading each line in their stanzas. it would be amazing to hear this read aloud in a large empty room (aka OUR HEARTS.)

You forgot "impotent" in addition to being embittered and misogynistic! I am not a big Larkin fan myself but that poem, the one that starts with "They fuck you up, your mum and dad" will always have a special place in my heart because I am an impotent small screaming child deep inside.
