Help!

Sep 28, 2004 19:03

I need to make a list of qualities that make me different for a scholarship, and I'm suddenly feeling extremely like all the other people who will apply. If you have a minute, please help me brainstorm how I'm not just an intelligent, white, lower-middle class female who is intellectual and involved in nice normal school activities. Thanks!

Intelligence with compassion and humor.

That's the first thought I have. Unfortunately, all those qualities do not seem to often co-exist. Hmmmmm

Quietly BRILLIANT... yet, always looking to assist others.

Sorry, I know this probably doesn't help much, but at least I get to tell you what I think of when I think of you! Writing about yourself is so very hard...we are trained not to blow our own horn, yet....you must do that very thing! I know when Sarah had to address a similar question, she just stated the obvious (ie: even though I am a white, middle class, protestant southern....etc.....here is what you might not expect) And I would think you would want to highlight your volunteer work in the community; the very diverse population in your school and community (I don't think that jibes with most folks' pre-conceptions about the South!)....

Just some thoughts. I know you will do well...would be curious to read what you come up with! Best of luck.

Ginger, you are quite witty. No, really--I'm serious. You are very humorous. You are also reliable, pretty, and good at explaining things to people. Okay? Okay.

since i always see you with a book and i hear so many things about your illustrious vocabulary, here is what i have to offer:

is being an avid reader a quality? if it is then i think you excel at reading because the amount that you read and obviously comprehend is quite amazing. i aspire to read many books, but my list just keeps getting longer as i don't make the time for it. and i doubt that everything you read is for school alone, am i right? it is for personal enjoyment and enlightenment.

even if it didn't help, know that i am inspired because i really wish i read more books. what happened to the good old days in elementary school where i went to the library once a week and checked out 10 books at a time?

hey ginger, i found your eljay and noticed that we are in a similar predicament, so i decided to donate my two cents.

i think you might have made a slight understatement when you said that you are "involved in nice normal school activities" because, the way i see it, your involvement in extraxcurricular activities is much more than just normal. for instance, you have made knit caps for cancer patients in your spare time (and so much more) and you are so involved in all the clubs you participate in. it seems like you put all of yourself into whatever you do, which is more than normal, its extraordinary.

then again, maybe its not so bad to be an intelligent, white, lower-middle class female; at least your not a boy because they get even less sympathy. i hope my two cents were worth something. good luck.

hola. i forgot to mention one thing about freedom's answer on my paper airplane. after people have collected pledges, please ask them to make a copy for themselves (to contact the pledges on election day eve) and turn the forms into a tri-m person. then... if you could please give all of those to me (and make a copy for tri-m records, if you wish) so that i could do an official count, it would be much obliged. :)
