Would you believe

That my absolute stark raving ass of a sister called my dad, on the day of the funeral, to talk about a ring that my mom had promised her? She'd just pawn it for drug money, if my mother did indeed promise it to her. You know, I'm not apt to hold a grudge often, but this just smacks of the time when my uncle died and his kids went to ransack his ( Read more... )

I just hope she didn't search the casket. What an amazingly crass & thoughtless thing to do.

As for "favorites", it seems like most parents invariably coddle the most problematic child, altho from what you'd told me, you would've thought that would've been you! :D

You have been able to get your shit together, tho, & she has not. Still, that is an amazing story.

She wasn't allowed at the funeral. She was going to come sleep on the floor at my Dad's house with her troop of kids while my mom was dying. Last time she was there to "help" my dad ended up waiting on her and taking care of my mom to boot. My dad finally told her that he would just really prefer she not show up at all. If she had, you can be guaranteed that she'd have gone through that house while my mom was still on her deathbed!!!

Crazy damned family members! I want a normal family!

Oy. I just think you turned out so amazingly wonderful. I'm sorry you've had to put up with so much crap from your family. It's irritating, but at least you know you're better than all that.

I'll tell you something, if I hadn't left that house when I did, I'd probably be just like her. Terrifying prospect. TERRIFYING!
