You know I can do the bipolar thing standing on my head. I know numerous bipolar people who still raise their children, keep food in the house, bathe them and don't break their arms. It is doable. She uses it as a crutch and an excuse for her own bad behavior. I won't even accept that the drug addict thing is part of how she treated her poor kids. I don't want to know someone who has it in them to break their own child's arm in two places, you know? That's a dangerous person indeed.
Am I allowed to suggest a minor correction of "blood family?" You have family, just not genetically related to you. (Yeah yeah, I know you know that already, just a gentle reminder.)
Took me a very long time to realize that sometimes, family or not, you just have to close some doors to protect yourself. When you realize you are worrying about the world & no one is worrying about you, it is a bit of a wakeup call.
Here's to drama-free living! (or at least as drama-free as possible)
As a corollary, I used to really battle hard at work for the desktop support guys, as I felt like they were getting shafted. I learned a couple of things:
1) Your value to the company is directly proportional to how easily replaceable you are.
2) I was willing to work harder for them than they were, which is probably part of the reason I was where I was & there were where they were, so I finally said to hell w/ it!
Remember to use the airplane rule: in an emergency, you put the mask on YOURSELF FIRST - you won't be around to help others if you don't take care of yourself first.
I've got to admit, tho, it is a lot easier to say than do. Taking care of others comes naturally for me - just as naturally as self-sacrifice/neglect. Pretty sure I learned that from my mom..
