all about Midna

Wow, I haven't posted anything on my LJ in ages. I've never been a journal-writer, because I usually think my thoughts through in my head and by the time that's done, I don't have any need to write about it. But it is beneficial to articulate them once in a while, even if it is just into the ether. Stuff like Facebook or Twitter, amusing as they ( Read more... )

Oh, wow! This is such an awesome idea for a fic! Midna *does* sound like Mara Jade - right down to the 'tude and the red hair.

writing realistic emotional reactions is something that I have usually been good at.

This is true, Dan. You've always had that ability.

Am I writing this for myself, or for other people? I'm trying hard to circumvent cliches of Zelda-fic that I've encountered, and not pander to useless expectations; really it's more for me. Still, I miss having readers . . .

I totally get this, which is why after two original stories I went back to fan fiction - just for a "fix" of feedback.

One thing that has helped me with my "feedback needs" was a line in a writing book (can't even remember which one) about how you, the author, are the authority. Think about that and let it sink in. You are the authority - you're also the wellspring of all the ideas that will drive your story. You don't need any more validation than that to forge ahead.

The judgment by outside forces can wait for another day, until it's done.

I was hoping you would see this--but I didn't want to be all "o hai i mada poste on lj plz rd kthxbai!!1!" lol

I'm glad my ideas are interesting! I like that feeling of having something important to say through writing; until it came back I almost didn't know how much I'd missed it. Most likely I wouldn't be as worried about wanting to post and so forth if I made more consistent progress. I think the need for feedback is somewhat proportional to how the secure the writer feels, but not entirely so. Can you imagine if real books were updated a chapter at a time as the author completed them? That wouldn't do at all--obviously published authors have to have that kind of discipline, so I guess we can follow their example.

I hope you'll enjoy it! Aside from ff.net and a couple LJ communities, there aren't many places I can post it, really--as popular as Zelda is, its fanfic following is nowhere near as huge as HP. But I suppose I'll be classing up the joint. lol
