why changes to Star Wars are so offensive

Something I posted on the originaltrilogy.com forum, but thought worthy of also saying here. I've just gotta say... AMEN! (*points to icon* My reaction to the "Improved" movies)

Though, I hated the revisions from the first time I saw the revised Star Wars in the theater (back when everyone updated their sound systems to his new-fangled system)...egad. How long ago was that? '95? '96? Maybe it was later...

I grew up watching the original trilogy almost daily...and I went from avid fan to someone who never re-watched an episode or swooned at the soundtrack. I did watch the first of the prequels in the theater... but I didn't have anything to do with Star Wars after that because I suspected that what I'd grown up loving must not have been as good as I remembered...

...until this summer. FINALLY got my hands on that DVD set where you can watch the Old Version. Watched the movies with my kids. Fell in love again.

(I loved those Zahn books, too. Ate them up when they first came out... Never read any of the others.)

Yeah, Lucas' constant revisionism (the Bluray looks like it will be even more changed for a third time) has become such a joke at this point, like someone obsessed with plastic surgery, utterly failing to realise that each successive 'improvement' in fact makes things worse and worse ( ... )
