I personally think people have natural degrees of inclination and aptitude towards spirituality just like they do anything else... I don't think it's much different from having an inborn passion for athletics or learning or art or whatever. I say this mostly because I know I'm not a spiritual person, never have been, and no amount of church, or guilt-tripping, or mission trips was able to make me feel it. Nor do I feel drawn to any other religion besides Christianity (though I think some of them perhaps have better philosophical premises.) Anyway, accepting that about myself actually made me a lot more sympathetic towards people who are naturally drawn towards the spiritual. It's probably as hard to suppress those inclinations as it is to force them.
