[ It's midway into dinner preparations when Alf opens the journal for some noise; it's shortly after when he decides to do small talk. ]

It snowed again, today. Maybe it's just me, but there's something about the blanket of white that calms the mind. Not to mention, you can do a lot with all that snow.

Is everyone enjoying the weather?

Yes, you can do a lot with snow. [You can turn it into ice to attack people with and distract your victims, for one. Giles still isn't entirely okay with this bit of knowledge] I'm a fan, personally. We almost never got it back home.

[ . . . Wow, Giles! Alf's response is a tad delayed, as he takes a second to decide that he should behave casually. Even if there's a lot of explaining to do.] Ah, Giles.

Neither did the Empire. It's a shame, considering how nice snow can be.

[There is explaining to do. And Giles will do it.

...in a few minutes. Once he sees whether or not he's in trouble.] Oh, it's absolutely wonderful. Best if you can see it late at night or early in the morning, of course, before everyone goes walking on it. Then there's ice.

[Ditto, so hard.]

I couldn't agree more. It looks its softest before it's stepped on. [Oho, ice.] Do you like the ice much, as well?

I take it you're not one for the cold.

Well, you can build figures and throw snowballs at each other. Fun activities, mostly.

Ya can do fun activities without snow as well! What benefits does it have, other than the fact it'll keep yer food cold? None, none at all.

[ There's low chuckling on his end. ]

You really don't like the cold, do you? To each his own, indeed.

Clean snow is beautiful. Though...I'm not quite sure what to do with it all...! We have an awful lot.

It really is . . . Wasn't someone making snowmen? I imagine most of the snow will be put to some kind of use, sooner or later.

Oh, yes! They were hard to miss over here. My building got surrounded, there were so many. I think I'd rather make snow angels.

As was mine. [ That's because you two live in the same building, Alf. ] Snow angels, huh? They'd look less . . . morbid, that's for sure.

I know I am. It's my first time seeing snow up close, and it'd been a lot of fun so far.

Is it really? I'm glad to hear you're having a good time. Have you done anything with the snow, yet?

Yup! I've been building a couple of things in the snow. It's been fun so far.

I imagine it must've been, especially when this is the first time you've made actual contact with snow.

Hm, have you had a snowball fight?

There's more to snow than throwing it? [No, really, Sanji's honestly intrigued as to what these other uses of snow are]

[ Ffft, Sanji, what does that question say about you as a person. ]

Of course. It's popular sport to throw it at each other, but you can also use it for decorative purposes, like making snowmen and snow angels.

[That he's a beast in snowball fights.

And amused snort]

So play in it.

... Or eat it, if you're in the mood.

[ Violent person.

Alf, on the other hand, chuckles lightly. ]

Essentially. It's what makes Winter a fun season. And you can eat it, though I wouldn't suggest it.
