Most people who get engaged at the age of 16, such as that girl on the VAA, usually don't understand the committment that goes into such an important step in a relationship. Enagement is the promise that you will eventually marry one another and.. both marriage, and engagement, are a lot of work. Sure, they think, "Oh my god, I love you! I swear I'm going to wait for you until 10 years from now!" But.. they don't understand how much that goes into making a marriage, much less a serious relationship, work. In addition to this - People change over the years and to say that you're engaged at such a young age after such a short amount of time [to my knowledge, they've only been seeing each other about 7 months?] is.. irresponsible. Though.. trust me when I say that it's very unlikely that it will work out for them

If by any chance you might just be talking about me since it kind sounds a lot like my situation... (Please to be excusing me if I'm mistaken.)
Uh, yes, I *was* joking. Actually, that comment was made by him before we even got together. Come on, now, you've got to give me a little more credit than that. I'm not that dumb. By no means was I serious about that.
Eh... on one hand, I waited quite a long time to pop the question... but, show of hands... who didn't see it coming? It was pretty much a couple of days into our relationship and we were coming up with baby names, you know? Sometimes it just works, and you know it works right away. I couldn't be happier.
At 16, though... yeah, not so much. If I'd married the girls I was into when I was 16... I'd be a much different person... broken and emo and possibly suicidal. o_o
I agree. Different friends of mine have been getting engaged sometimes before they even graduate from high school, or after only dating for a few months. Granted, sometimes those marriages end up lasting lifetimes, but... well, I'm pretty much agreeing with Nikki said here. :\ Marriage is a HUGE commitment, and when you're young, you're still changing *so* much. It just seems that people take marriage way too lightly these days (and I'm not necessarily referring to people who get engaged when they are young, but people who go through three or four different husbands/wives in a short period of time.. yeah, see celebrity marriages.) Also, people now seem to get engaged and then just break it off like it's not even a commitment they're making. :/ Plus.. there's the whole aspect of not really getting to experience life and dating other people, and it could increase the chances of one or both partners becoming "restless" in the marriage (again, a former friend of mine married soon and ended up wondering if she married the right person for

16 and engaged? :O I don't know but I've never understood all that. Then again I think being 20 odd and engaged is still early. XD; Although what really is the kicker is when those 16-year-olds start mucking around and getting pregnant ._. I swear kids shouldn't be allowed to have kids.
You're totally right. 100% agreement, they think they're so mature. I knew i was a kid at 16...I would never make decisions that could mess up my childhood
