I went out last night with my boy T (Asian dude) and as we were leaving a diverse joint we played pool in, he wanted to make one quick stop at a Tiki Bar for a quick drink. He forewarned me that I will probably be the only black person in there. Fine with me I said, I don't mind the ratio as I would probably be the biggest dick in there. Sure

I stumbled into an Indian bar in Portland a few days before I left and had a similar experience. It reminded me of one of those old westerns where the music stops when someone wanders into a saloon. I don't mind being the only white person in the room though. If they get sassy with me I'll threaten to colonize them.

I really didn't mind being the only black dude in there. God knows that has been the case in many places I've gone to. The fucking place was crowed. I tried talking to some of the chicks in there and they were all mum. In all honesty that has never happened to me before. Then it hit me that these people come here for a reason. They are there for each other and outsiders aren't really welcomed. I would have loved for someone to be sassy but it was all silence. I was standing there like a gaff. I suppose someone that doesn't drink has no business being inside an establishment meant exclusively for getting drunk.

I actually had more fun outside the joint than inside. There was this one dude who tried to go into the joint to get a drink and they told him that they weren't serving any more. He started screaming "Do you know who I am? I'm Rick James Bitch." As played out as that line is we all chuckled. He then said "No really, I am Rick James" and pulled out his drivers license. Sure enough, his name was Rick James.
