Of course, the key question in the Matrix is: What do you do when you know the truth?
Anyone can live the lie if they don't know it's a lie. That is the function of the Matrix.
Once you know the truth, you can take the blue pill and believe whatever you want to believe...but it doesn't erase your memory of the revelation. That dream could still haunt you for the rest of your life. Or you can take the red pill. Neither is an easy choice. Revelation of the true nature of the Matrix world happens to you, you don't choose it and you can't go back from it. You can only choose how to deal with it.
(I'm really just running with the metaphor here. I'm far too groggy still to actually figure out whether I'm giving good advice about the situation you're talking about. Sometimes I just like to talk about movies.)
