Medical Profession

Ok, now usually I am a fan of the medical profession, but not tonight. I am in the hospital right now, and am waiting to see the doctor. I am here because after some talk tonight, and events over the past weeks, I decided, with support of family, that we needed to check my mother in to the psychiatric wing for observation, and evaluation. Yes, that is totally fucked up.

I think you have to be able to prove that she is a danger to herself and others in order for her to get involuntarily committed. Otherwise, it is unfortunately up to her.

I agree that you need to take her to a different doctor, or perhaps a completely different facility. If you can show that she's tried to hurt herself then that should be enough to keep her for 24 hours, during which time they can observe her behavior more closely. Of course there's no guarantee that she'll stay (voluntarily *or* involuntarily) but that's all you can do.
