The day was just beginning to break as the sun's minuscule rays sneak their ways in through the blinds. The dust present was dancing its daily routine around the two Shinigami officers. The place needed cleaning desperately, as it was common knowledge that Kyouraku Shunsui didn't know how to take care of himself. Luckily he had his companion, Ukitake Juushiro to take care of what he didn't.
The two had recently moved in together, since the previous 6th seat relocated to another room because he was fed up with Kyouraku's irresponsibility. Things had been going smoothly thus far though. Ukitake has had no complaints as of yet. Maybe it was just the time they were spending together that he enjoyed so much.
The sun eventually made its way into the room, the light now shone on Ukitake's face. He awoke suddenly, and something was very wrong. He lowered his head and what he saw sent him into something close to shock. His robes were covered in a deep red substance, which he knew almost instantly was his own blood. He turned over to shake his friend awake, realizing that he was unable to breathe.
"Kyou... hel... p," The words just wouldn't escape his lips. He crawled over to his glass of water in an attempt to flush his mouth out but was unable. "Kyoura...k," He tried once more, but it seemed to be no use. Would he die here? Like this? Without even getting to tell the man who he loved goodbye?
Thoughts ran in and out of his brain as he scrambled up to wake Kyouraku. It worked this time. In an instant he was on his feet, and without a word, he ran off to fetch Ukitake's medicine from the cabinet in the kitchen area. He was back within a minute and was on his knees in front of Ukitake, attempting to administer the medicine.
"Rest now," said Kyouraku, wiping the sweat droplets from his forehead. No matter what, he never expressed his worry. And that was something that Ukitake always cherished. Kyouraku lowered his head and kissed his hair and placed him on his pillow, "I'll handle your work for the day."
The two of them could only smile.
"Thank you."
