the incredible shrinking food

For several months, I've noticed a disturbing trend among the things I normally buy at the grocery store. The prices are going up, and the sizes of the packages (or the food itself) is SHRINKING. I really thought I might be going crazy for a few weeks. I thought my wires might be crossed in my brain or something, but Mike has noticed it, too.  Ice ( Read more... )

This has been true for as long as I can remember. I know I was incredibly annoyed ten years ago when the yogurt I always ate for breakfast went from 8 ounces to 6 ounces without lowering their price per cup.

Oh man, I forgot about yogurt. How do they expect you to get any nourishment at all from those teeny tiny cups? Now they make them even smaller.

It's been on the news forever how food prices are going up. Fuel prices rise and farmers have to pay more for diesel to run the tractors and get the food to the market. Stores have to charge more to pay for fuel for delivery trucks, etc. Guess who gets to pay? Yep. Us.
There are other factors going in, but gas prices are the main cause

I have to find the link about food volume going down and prices going up. I'll send it as soon as I do.
Oh and I hear the gas thing is temporary :(
