Mr. Grumpy Goes To The Beach
OT5
Changmin thinks that Okinawa is just like every other island paradise he's ever been to-not all it's cracked up to be. Sure, there's the clear blue skies, and the palm trees, and the sparkling sea beckoning in the distance, but it's hot. It's hot, and he's wearing a ridiculous white suit and dancing what could only be described as an epileptic jig and he hasn't slept since Osaka, and so he would be rather disinclined to find the silver lining here, even if there were a cloud in the sky to find it on (and to block the sun for just a second because God damn it is hot).
Still, he is a professional, and so it doesn't matter if it's hot. It doesn't matter if there is sweat dripping down the small of his back (and pooling behind his knees and coating his forehead). It doesn't matter if the water that has been in his ear since the scene with the pump is bouncing around his head with every movement he makes. He will smile and jig and look fabulous and make this music video something they can all be proud of, epileptic choreography or no. But, he decides, he will also take a Grumpy Day.
That is what Junsu calls them-or what Junsu used to call them before Changmin gave him what Yoochun refers to as the Death Look. Changmin prefers to think of them as days off-since he can't take a day off from work, he takes a day off from being the calm, thoughtful one. For the rest of the day, he thinks with relish, he will be irrational and implacable.

Changmin is awakened in the middle of the night by a series of pokes in the side. When he opens his eyes, Junsu is leaning over him and Yoochun is peering over Junsu's shoulder and for a moment he is scared. None of them had ever taken revenge for a Grumpy Day before, but why else would Junsu and Yoochun sneak into his room in the middle of the-wait. His room. "How did you guys get in here?"
Junsu grins. "We climbed from our balcony to your balcony!"
"We're on, like, the seventeenth floor. You could have died."
"That's what I told him," Yoochun says, punching Junsu in the shoulder.
Changmin looks from one to the other, trying to decide if he could take them both out and and stop the madness. He decides not when Junsu punches Yoochun back, hard; instead, he glares at Yoochun and says (before the punching can escalate further), "But you're here too."
Yoochun shrugs. "He didn't listen."
Changmin thinks that if they are trying to get revenge, they are doing a very good job. "Why are you here?"
"We're going to sneak out and go to the beach!" Junsu says excitedly, and Yoochun grins and nods.
"You guys, it's like-" Changmin looks at his clock and groans. "It's late. Go away. I just want to sleep-"
And they are either very fast or he is very slow, because suddenly the covers are gone and they're carrying him to the door (it was definitely a good choice not to try to take them on, he realizes) and Junsu is saying chipperly, "You can sleep at the beach!"
When they step into the hallway, he sees Yunho and Jaejoong, sleep-rumpled and upside-down (they could at least carry him so that all the blood wasn't rushing to his head, he thinks, though he is too sleepy to be truly irritated). "They climb onto your balcony too?" he asks.
Upside-down Yunho gives him a quizzical look and Yoochun laughs. "No, we knocked. We didn't want to interrupt...you know..."
He feels the punch slam hard into his back, and then hears Jaejoong say sheepishly, "Sorry. I was aiming for Yoochun, but he moved."
Changmin sighs and decides to make it a Grumpy Night, too.

It doesn't work out, though. It's not that Changmin doesn't try-he sits down when they get there and throws fistfulls of sand at anyone who tries to make him move-but then Jaejoong offers to give him a backrub to make up for punching him, and it feels nice, and Yunho sits down next to him and tells him about the beaches in Jeolla, and his voice sounds nice, and Yoochun and Junsu run through the waves and laugh and...well, there's nothing particularly nice about them, but he loves them anyway.
"I took a Grumpy Day today," he says.
"Yes, you did," Yunho says, smiling.
"I was going to take a Grumpy Night tonight, too, but I've decided against it." He is magnanimous.
"Good, because I'm sick of your bullshit," Jaejoong says, giving his back a brisk pat with both hands to signify he is done, and Changmin can hear the grin in his voice. "Now come on, let's go dunk those idiots for getting us up in the middle of the night like this."
As Changmin runs after Jaejoong and Yunho towards an unsuspecting Junsu and Yoochun, he thinks that maybe island paradises aren't so bad after all.
