So I'm reading something about how Graham Norton would rather live alone rather than with someone who folds towels the wrong way (which I totally get, btw), and in the comments on the ONTD page, a couple of people mention folding towels by "hamburger" and "hotdog

That and we Americans tend to forget that we're not the only ones on the planet. Hahaha.
They are and if you haven't grown up speaking it, it won't ever sound 'right'. My German teacher in high school used to love teasing us about our 'American accents' when we'd speak in her language. I agree with you on the last part - my husband likes to watch Top Gear and listening to the way they pronounce things as common as Nissan is amusing. Like if you can understand me enough to correct me then I obviously made my point! LOL
Ah, that's what I was thinking but wasn't sure. Makes it nice for them right after Christmas though to have that time off. That would be so nice to have everyone on the same schedule!
Same here. Not much actually interests me but sometimes I see something and am dumb enough to go in and read the comments. I don't belong either and don't always want to!

If you have a letter sized paper and fold it top to bottom it is hamburger (fat), side to side is hot dog (long). To my knowledge it is fat versus long.

PS: this is the closest icon I have to a hot dog... I think.

Yeah, everything I know about schooling in America I learned from movies and TV, so at least we have that; you won't have much Kiwi TV/movies that can explain ours to you! I guess the main thing that will seem weird is that because our seasons are opposite, our school year actually runs from February to December, like a calendar year (almost, except that January is pretty much always in summer holidays), and the summer holidays/Christmas holidays are at the same time!

I actually love having Christmas and summer holidays around the same time; it's really different from the winter Christmas, but it's such a fun time of year and everything seems so much easier in the good weather leading up to Christmas, especially when that time of year can be so busy! And then, after Christmas, things slow down and you can relax in the heat!
Don't worry about the late reply - I'm not much better a lot of times.
