Things I never thought I'd read and enjoy: hooker AU. Seriously, it's like my my most hated fandom trope but my god you've made it work here. I mean, aside from your fluid writing and sharp characterization (which is typical of all your fic), the reason it's so good is because of the atmosphere. Alternia/Earth fusion AUs are like my favourite thing ever and you sell this brilliantly in just a few words. I love that Dave grew up in this trollish slum and that he's dragging John into his world for a night of debauchery. I would read about the most goddamn inane things set in a universe like this, I really, really would.

But no seriously thank you so much for your lovely comment. I too enjoy these Alternia/Earth AUs (which may be why I just keep writing them), possibly a bit too much, and this was really fun to write on a lot of levels.

Um. So, you don't know me but I've been working my way through all your public HS fic, and basically I am completely in love with your writing. I stopped to comment on this one in particular because it's one of the ones I would have otherwise hesitated to touch (I'm not fond of brothel AUs in general), but since you managed the near-impossible feat of making me like a Western, I figured there was a good chance this one would be good too, and you didn't disappoint. It's beautiful and sad and makes me want to cry because Karkat's so broken and despairing, and yet he still has that pride underneath that makes him keep going. I especially love how he didn't want to give John his name because it's the only thing that's still his, and how he ended up giving it anyway.
