CHARACTER INFORMATION

So okay, maybe this is silly, but it's something I've wanted to do for a while. WHY NOT.

I play Devit a lot in dgmdressroom! He is labeled there as "CFUD!Devit." Originally he was canon!Devit, but that became less and less true as he spent more time at CFUD. And the reasons for that can be found in all my essays and shit but those essays comprise like 25,000 words (remember that time I counted) and no one cares.

So the fact is that Devit is an AU of canon. He's spent time in CFUD which means he's older, looks different, has different habits and experiences. And in the DGMDR, when this is the case, people usually make an info post in the character's journal explaining the AU, for reference.

THAT IS WHAT THIS IS. This is the lowdown on Devit's AU, how camp has affected him, and how he relates to the other Noah/Earl/Exorcists now when he meets them. In a way it's a DGMDR post and not a CFUD post. But it's also a rehash of CFUD development, so read on if you like. ALSO THIS ENDED UP BEING AN ESSAY ABOUT DEVIT'S CURRENT MINDSET SO IF YOU LIKE THAT KIND OF THING!

APPEARANCE: FIRST THINGS FIRST. Devit looks slightly different than he does in canon. He is no taller and doesn't look terribly older, and his build is a lot like it is in the most recent chapters (i.e. more muscular and less skinny than it used to be). But he's still visibly different from a Devit ripped straight out of the manga. He dresses slightly less outrageously, though he still wears a lot of black and leather. His left ear is pierced (two holes), and his right arm has a large tattoo on the bicep that looks like this:

but he usually keeps that covered, although he doesn't go to great lengths to do so. He also dresses slightly more conservatively (he still wears pretty much only black, white, gray, red, and purple, and he dresses with an androgynous punk influence, but it's often more comfortable and less revealing), and he never wears bandages around his neck anymore, but rather a silver pendant:

That one he does in fact deliberately hide (in his shirt), but he never removes it, ever.

ETA: In the DR (but not in camp), he's also started changing his makeup, to make himself more immediately recognizable and distance himself from other Devits. He still wears black eyeliner and mascara, but he no longer draws the vertical line over his left eye, and he often adds in dark lipstick. Sometimes he'll get a little fancy with his eye makeup, but not in the way shown in his icons, more like little designs in the corners. When he's dressing down he will only wear the lipstick.

In camp he wears his eye makeup the same way usually, but will add dark lipstick and sometimes wear only the lipstick.

He is ALWAYS IN BLACK FORM ALWAYS. I will never change him into "white" form until we either get canon for it or he dies in canon and never WILL get canon for it. I don't want to make assumptions about his human skin color, which is something we have no way of knowing right now (technically we don't even know if he has a white form).

ETA 2: He now has a second tattoo! Let me edit that in here:

I don't have a picture of it because this one he designed himself, but here is the pretentious description I gave Mika in a thread:

on the body's right shoulder and down to its chest there's a sharp, bold, tribal-esque design which looks almost like stylized claws clutching the shoulder from behind; it's a pretty big tattoo. it continues in a thorned wave around the back of the shoulders, all the way around, tapering off gradually, until it comes back over the body's left shoulder and down over its heart in a thin, delicate, curly vine.

Maybe I'll attempt to draw it someday but my drawings . . . always end badly ha ha

. . . He also got his navel pierced, if you happen to be looking down there, pervert.

tl;dr Devit has pierced ear and navel, two tattoos (one of which is very large), and wears his makeup and clothes a bit differently.

MORE IMPORTANT STUFF: In other words, basically "the history of Devit at camp." First off, I play him in the DGMDR as being post-CFUD. He left camp and ended up there through some fluke, immediately. That means that he's always been in the DR for exactly as long as he's been in camp, so his age is whatever he was in canon plus that. Right now in CFUD he's 19, which makes him 21 in the DR, although he'll always be confused about this and unsure of his own age.

So, what happened to Devit in camp! Obviously I can't go into everything, but here's a brief history of why he's different.

Devit showed up in camp without Jasdero. It was the first time in his life that they've ever been apart, and he broke down and freaked out. Tyki, who was in camp at the time, advised him to try and get along however he could, by making friends and living his own life. Devit resisted this for some time, but it was eventually impossible to resist without living in constant misery and getting killed a lot, so he slowly began to open up to people and buddy around with them. He discovered that not everyone was out to get him, not even all of the humans! In fact, some of the humans seemed kind of okay and fun to talk to, which Devit attributed to them not being from his world (and honestly, he still does).

A month later, Jasdero showed up! Devit was extremely happy! At the same time, he was ashamed and scared, because here he'd been opening up to other people, and that felt like a betrayal of the Bonds. But once that can of worms was open, Devit couldn't go back on it; he found it impossible to go back to living the way he'd been living before, with no interpersonal contact and no one to care for him besides Jasdero. He felt like he SHOULD go back to that, but he'd been unhappy that way, and he didn't have the strength to do it. He managed to make things cool with Jasdero after a lot of angst and evasion and crying and bonding. Awww. Anyway, Jasdero wasn't THRILLED by the new developments, and he didn't really GET them either, but both of them ended up all right.

IN THE MIDST OF ALL THIS Devit met a guy named Hakuren Oak! He was a prissy, egotistical, intelligent, prideful priest with a good heart and a caring soul! Devit was attracted to him! They eventually hooked up! Jasdero was not thrilled with this either, but again they talked it out and he came to understand, and the Jasdevi relationship was never in any danger, and Jasdero and Hakuren got along all right.

Hakuren taught Devit a lot about interpersonal relationships and humans and the world. For months Devit was dangerously unstable at times, because he still hated (and still hates, ftr) humanity and the Noah inside him was enraged by the thought of a relationship with one, because relationships entail compromise and sacrifice. He would randomly lash out at Hakuren and threaten to hurt or kill him, or go on sudden tirades about humans and genocide. Throughout all of that Hakuren never judged him or left him, which--really meant a lot to Devit! Hakuren wasn't afraid of him and didn't think he was disgusting or evil no matter what he said or did or threatened to do, and that was Devit's first experience with a human that WASN'T LIKE THAT. That helped him finally reconcile his own willingness to be in a relationship, as did Tyki, who gave him advice on how to let himself be happy and when not to fight things (Tyki was also in a relationship with a human).

So he began to settle down and feel less angry about having a non-Bonds bond, and the more time he spent around the humans in camp, the more he began to understand them. He still didn't LIKE them, and he still doesn't. Devit still believes that (most) humans are like ants, worthless and fun to step on, and he will never think otherwise, because he's a Noah. But he came to understand that humans themselves don't feel that way and can't understand a Noah's mind, and the more he understood humans, the less angry he was at them; he didn't like them any better or think they were right, but he felt less and less like they were out to get him personally.

Devit again partially chalked up Hakuren's difference from other humans to the world he came from, which sounded really cool! 07-Ghost-verse has neat shit like dragons and ruins and magic and hey, no God, which sounded awesome to Devit. He also refused to entertain the possibility of never seeing Hakuren again after camp, because Devit doesn't let go of things easily. AT ALL. So he began to entertain the idea of going to Barsburg after camp. He was less and less thrilled with the idea of going home to get sacrificed by the Earl anyway; Devit's life in camp was a lot better than his life at home, and he wasn't keen on dying, even if that IS the fate of all Noah. He brought this up with Jasdero, who agreed! The two of them decided together to world-hop after camp instead of going back to DGM world.

Then Jasdero left camp alone.

Devit was completely crushed by this, borderline suicidal and sick and miserable. SOMETHING IMPORTANT HAPPENED AT THIS TIME. When Jasdero left, the Earl was in camp, and he found Devit out by the barrier, sick and crying and wishing for death. And the Earl didn't extend any sympathy towards Devit at that time. Instead of comforting him, he basically urged Devit to suck it up and pull himself together; he also sensed that Devit was afraid the Earl had come to kill him (for being a useless Noah without his other half) and was irritated and threatening about that. Losing Jasdero HURTS, and that was the lowest point in Devit's life, and at that time it was humans--including Allen Walker, to Devit's confusion--who supported him and cared for him.

THAT MESSED DEVIT UP A LOT. After that, he stopped trusting the Earl, and he became even more firm in his resolve to not go back to his world and assist the Noah. He knows he has a duty back home, but he doesn't care; what matters to him is being happy and being alive and not being anyone's servant or bitch. He will go back home to grab Jasdero, and then he's out of there, no matter what it takes.

Camp after that point, on his own, has mostly been the gradual reinforcement of the same principles. Devit has come to some important realizations in camp:

* Killing people in these circumstances is a stupid move; they only come back, and then they get their insanely powerful friends to take revenge on you. There's no point in killing anyone. Since the exact same circumstances exist in the DR, Devit as a rule doesn't kill there either. He still LIKES killing and has no problem with it, and he wouldn't hesitate to kill someone in a fight to the death, but he doesn't go around doing it for fun anymore, in either place.

* He can no longer have everything he wants in life, ever. There is a part of Devit that wants everything that happened in camp to go away, so he can be like he used to be: alone with Jasdero, killin' dudes, endin' the world. And he could have that, if he wanted. He does. But having that would mean not having friends or a place to call home or love or safety or the freedom to do what he wanted when he wanted on his own terms. And he wants that too! He understands that choosing the latter means no more slaughtering people, and HE HATES THAT, he honestly does. He fucking hates that he has to choose between these two lives (in a hilarious parallel to Tyki's canon situation). But he has chosen, and he chose the latter, mostly because he understands that he wasn't actually happy before (except for in his relationship with Jasdero, but that won't go away no matter WHAT he chooses, which is a comfort to him) and because he's angry at the Earl and has been far better treated by Hakuren than he ever was by the Earl.

There's one last thing tipping the scales in favor of "live a clean-ish life" over "go back to killing dudes and get sacrificed to the Earl": the former is reversible. Devit knows that if he goes home and kills people and helps bring about the end and then dies, that's--it. He can't take that back. Even if he doesn't die, even if he just ends his world or kills thousands of people trying to, he knows he won't be welcome in Hakuren's bed. But LIVING STRAIGHT with Hakuren, on the other hand--it's horrible, but Devit knows that if he gets bored or angry or fucked over somehow after two years there, he and Jasdero can go on a killing spree or something and murder Hakuren and shut themselves off from humanity and terrorize the world with their powers. He doesn't plan on DOING this, but he knows he could, whereas if he chooses "go home and end the world," he will never have love and safety and friendship again.

SO.

DEVIT IN THE DR

Devit is basically a traitor to the Noah at this point. He is still a Noah and he still likes being a Noah; he still hates humans and the Exorcists and Innocence. He doesn't think ANYTHING the Earl is doing is "wrong." He doesn't want to be Exorcised (he's had moments of wondering about it ONLY because he'd like to be able to age with his boyfriend, but then he thinks of losing his Noah and feels sick inside). But he's a traitor because he does not plan on going home, does not like the Earl, does not hope to continue living the Noah lifestyle, and does not ever actively help the Noahs or Earl in their cause. He would much rather keep to himself and play by his own rules, and antagonize people for shits and giggles and kill them if it comes down to it, and destroy any Innocence he can get his hands on. But he considers himself a free agent, not an agent of the Earl. He has not ever expressed this to anyone because he's also TERRIFIED OF THE EARL. He knows he'll be killed if it comes out, and he doesn't want that. It's easier to just sort of play along.

His plan is still to get Jasdero, somehow, and then get to Barsburg to stay with Hakuren and figure out some kind of life for himself there. He won't do anything to jeopardize this. Devit's thoroughly in love with Hakuren and won't cheat on him, and isn't attracted to anyone else anyway.

He interacts with the Noah and some others in different ways:

The Earl: SLASH COUNTESS, lol. Devit still--loves the Earl, in a way, and considers him family. But he also hates and fears the Earl. He would like very much to officially declare himself outside of the Noah contingent in the DR (his room is just about as far out of the South Wing as you can get while still being in the South Wing), but he knows what kinds of consequences that would have, and he hates the Exorcists even more so it's not like he wants to join up with them. Devit is wary around Earls and pretty much just tries to act normally.

Jasdero: Devit's particular Jasdero, the one who agreed to go to Barsburg with him, isn't in the DR. Devit loves all Jasderos unconditionally, because they're JASDERO, but he worries constantly about "corrupting" them or hurting them. He knows that his own thoughts and plans are dangerous, and he doesn't want to put any Jasderos in danger by planting the "hey btw let's stop working for the Earl" seed in their head, but at the same time it's JASDERO and they talk about everything and it's so hard NOT to, and Devit feels horrible and guilty for this. He feels similarly towards other Devits, on the rare occasions when they show up.

Tyki: Tyki in camp really helped steer Devit on his current path, in a weird way, and Devit also GETS Tyki more now; he understands the appeal of having a black and a white life, he gets why Tyki did that. Still though, he likes to pick on Tyki and annoy him, and that stuff trumps anything else, because Devit isn't comfortable enough with Tykis to go up to them and spill his guts about his OWN black and white lives and human-loving tendencies.

Road: His relationship with Road is basically unchanged, except he's a bit more afraid of her, being worried she'll find out his secret.

Wisely: DEVIT HATES WISELY LIKE NOTHING ELSE because Wisely can read minds! He lives in terror that Wisely will pick up on his intentions and tell everyone and Devit will be killed over and over etc. etc. He doesn't get why this hasn't happened yet, actually. He's sure Wisely can read him, and he hates it and avoids him as much as possible, and tries to prevent his mind from being read, which of course backfires.

Allen: In camp Devit is--not friends with Allen, he still hates Allen, but they have a sort of weird familial understanding. Devit is still confused as to why Allen showed him sympathy that time in camp and seems to not hate his company. COMPLICATED FEELINGS! He defaults to hating Allens still, but they can break down some of his walls if they try.

Lavi: Devit had/has a friendly-ish rivalry enemy THING relationship with Rabi in camp, and he will sometimes approach them in the DR to see what happens, but he is always a little disconcerted when the banter isn't quite the same. He actually kind of misses his own Rabi, to his horror and confusion.
