The Others are robots? LOL. The theories were fun. It was (almost) all fun. It just makes me smile to think about, and I'm glad it's mostly still here to revisit.
Like I said in my other comment - it's nice to see you pop up again. I hope you are doing well. Happy Thanksgiving!
And glad that most of the classic fic is still here. It's funny that I've forgotten so many details about the show itself until I come across them in fic and it's like, "Oh yeah, they did find the bottle of letters that washed ashore after the raft sailed."
This was a fun notification to have pop up in my inbox today! I haven't been on LJ in years, besides reading gossip on ONTD from time to time.
I sure loved the glory days of Lost fic, too! <3
I've been obsessed with a lot of TV shows since, but nothing has ever been like watching and discussing Lost as it aired. I'm not sure anything ever will be! Pure magic.
It really was such a once in a lifetime show and fandom. I know most regular folks got frustrated with it, and we did too, but fandom kept me going. So, unlike casual viewers, I remember it very fondly. When I wasn't throwing stuff at the screen, LOL.
Josh Holloway is supposed to have a show coming up called "Duster," which is set in the '70s, where he's a getaway driver for the mob! Sounds amazing and I hope it actually happens. I watched both of his TV shows since (at least in part) and it just wasn't the same.
A coworker told me she'd never seen Lost and I can't imagine it would be at all the same if you started bingeing all the episodes now in a vacuum, so I was like, "Eh, don't bother."
And happy thanksgiving! :) And perfect icon. *hugs*
It really was! One of my friends who hadn't seen it before tried to binge it this year (last year?) and she didn't finish. It just wasn't the same, and I totally get that. Like you said, vacuum. A lot of the fun was trying to figure it out, week-to-week. Watching it all in a week or two wouldn't be at all the same.
I'm pretty sure she watched it after I got her to watch Yellowjackets. We were discussing some theory she had, I don't even remember what, and I was like, "Well, that happened on Lost. So probably not."
So I am digging Yellowjackets as well, but I don't quite have the same obsession with it. But it was one that I was reading theories on Reddit (I miss reading the TWoP forums, if we want to talk TV nostalgia!) as I watched, so that was something, at least!
Happy Thanksgiving! (And I had a blast looking at all my old icons! They are totally frozen in time, lol.)
I might also have given up on Lost if it wasn't for fandom! The whole Tailies thing.... augh!
I don't feel the urge to write fic about Yellowjackets, but I am totally addicted. I miss TWoP so much! Hardly any other site, except Reddit, has a way to discuss spoilers in depth without spoiling someone else.
Imagine if Twitter had been around when Lost was on - we would have been spoiled silly!
And yes, your icons are the best! :) And I JUST remembered that I can change mine up. Oooh, LJ, i missed you. So weird for there to be ads on it now. And no, I don't want to log in via FB or some other site. LOL
Oh, hey! Nice to see you! I'm still pottering around on here, but yeah, I agree that it's not like it was. Lost was truly a magical time. Funnily enough, I was just re-reading some of my old Lost stories (and now have trouble believing I wrote!), which was very fun after all this time.
Finding something so addictive is very hard, not to mention something that we were able to SHARE and discuss in the way we did with Lost. I was with a group following H50 which was fun for some time, despite the fact that the show went downhill in the mid-seasons and lost what made it special, but since then... nothing really. I did hitch onto The Expanse (sci-fi rather than quite so fantasy as Lost), which was a great show (and the books it was based on), but didn't get into fandom on it.
I'll have to look up Yellowjackets! Thanks! And I see you mentioned a possible new show for Josh Holloway, which I hope comes to fruition! I started watching one of his others, but my husband lost interest and then it was hard to find time alone to watch, so
( ... )
And I had the exact same reaction revisiting some of my own fic, like, "*I* wrote this?" Some I remembered very well, others not at all. So I'm extra mad at myself for the ones I didn't finish because they just... end. Dammit!
Yellowjackets is excellent and I love the cast: Christina Ricci, Juliette Lewis and lots of great '90s music. No slash and almost no male characters, but there is a canon lesbian couple. It's on Showtime and they're filming Season 2 right now. Some Lost parallels, people stranded by plane crash, endless mysteries, hints of supernatural stuff, but since it's on cable, they can go a lot darker. It's more like Lord of the Flies, but with teenage girls.
Oh, and the alien series with Josh was Colony and I didn't stick with it. Not a big fan of alien themes, except maybe X-Files and even then those weren't my favorite episodes. The new show premise sounds perfect. Let's hope it happens!
Yeah, I know what you mean there! I haven't written much at all in years now, and so many unfinished things, or stuff I planned to do a follow-up on. I'm at the point of forgetting what even happened in shows that I started fic on, so can't even think where I wanted to go with them. Thankfully I hadn't posted too many like that, but I feel bad about the ones I did.
OK, not sure if Yellowjackets is really my thing now you've described it some (I am so shallow - no equivalent to Josh to admire regularly? LOL). I tell you what I just found which is super-intriguing: 1899. It seems to be a German/British co-production, as some of it is dubbed and some is originally in English, so if you can get past the lips mismatch with the dubbing, it's pretty good so far. It's set on a steamship in... you guessed it... 1899, and there are so many weird mysteries going on, plus I'm not convinced it's 'reality' as a couple of anachronisms have shown their face. I'm fascinated though! And canon gay characters too!
I might check out 1899, thanks! Always love a good mystery. Bad dubbing is very distracting, though.
And there is at least one kinda hot guy on Yellowjackets (photo below) but no chance of slash there. I just love all the actresses though and it's very addictive.
