25 fics, one not!fic and 78 776 words. Nothing like what I wrote last year, but I never expected to have two years like THAT in a row.
It's one thing to list fics, but I like to do some statistics as well.
The only thing I can think when I look at that is "How the hell did I write so much slash?"
Really. Where did that come from? These pie charts usually come out at least 50% green. I have no idea how I ended up writing so much M/M this year. Okay, a large part of the wordcount one was my BBB fic, but that doesn't account for the sheer numbers of them. WTF.
My best story of the year: There are a lot of fics I'm proud of this year. 'The pieces don't fit' is, I think, the dearest to me, but 'Home in Exile' and 'How To Win Your Timeslot' are also some of my best writing ever.
My favourite story of the year: 'The pieces don't fit' again. Normally it's hard to pick one but that one just came to me so easily, I love the feel of it, and the subject matter is so close to my heart.
Story of mine most underappreciated by the universe: I would have liked 'Square Hole Seeks Square Peg' to get more attention, but Hana Kimi is such a tiny fandom that I can't really expect it. So I'm going to say 'There's always room for an encore' because I think it's an excellent piece of writing and an excellent AU, and it barely made a ripple.
Most popular story: 'Community Service' got the most hits due to bandombigbang exposure, but the stories with the most comments are the ones I've written in the last month; 'Terrible Top Gear' because of Yuletide, and the two Community fics I've posted.
Story with the single sexiest moment: 'I can't be tempted' is the only one that got a comment on its hotness - woo, people like threesomes! - but I think 'Square Hole Seeks Square Peg' was the most intense. For me, though, the hottest thing was 'Ideal Study Conditions', where Tomo is tied up and frustrated and Yomi is just so content.
Maybe next year I will actually write actual sex scenes. I'm getting there.
Most 'holy crap that's wrong, even for you': Mark Wilson/Chris Cester furry fic. I don't care what you all think, I love that fic to bits.
Story that shifted by perception of the characters: Home in Exile, I guess, because it made me think about Pete/Alicia dynamics in more depth than I ever have before.
Hardest story to write/biggest disappointment: I still haven't finished Lift-To-Drag Ratio. Or my other Haruhi Suzumiya longfic. The hardest thing to write that I actually finished was Community Service, which I would have abandoned if it hadn't gotten claimed, and which I'm still really not happy with.
Favourite OC: The only ones I wrote were nameless soldiers in Home In Exile and the guy with the clipboard in Get out before the credits.
Biggest surprise: Home In Exile. Not exactly the way it turned out (though when I started, I didn't expect it to get to 8k) but how much I enjoyed the writing process. I was stuck on it a lot, but it was the kind of plot that left me with the sort of logical plot-progression puzzles I love solving, like how to get Alicia into a watched building, and then how to get her and Pete out again. And that's true on a world-building level too. It's the best world-building I've ever done, and I think that's because I set out the conditions of the dystopia to suit the plot, with the balance between electronic surveillance and relying on more primitive technologies to evade it, and what it's like to live without modern communications when you're so used to it. I just love that story to bits.
Most unintentionally telling story: I don't think anything's unintentionally telling, but 'The pieces don't fit' and 'If I Just Keep Breathing' were the ones where I drew the most on my own experiences, and particularly painful experiences at that. They're easily fics with the most of me in them.
2012 ambitions: Finish Lift-To-Drag Ratio and Death of an Atheist, my two massive Haruhi Suzumiya fics. Knock a few other things off the WIP list while I'm at it. Don't sign up to any more challenges until November. Write more Community fic. And write some goddamn porn for once in my life.
